Overview

The Senior Director of Clinical Affairs and Partnerships provides strategic leadership for Yale School of Nursing's clinical education enterprise and serves as the principal administrative leader responsible for advancing academic-practice partnerships across Yale School of Nursing and Yale New Haven Health System.

Working collaboratively with senior leadership across Yale University, Yale School of Nursing, Yale New Haven Health System, and external healthcare organizations, the Senior Director develops and executes strategies that strengthen clinical education capacity, workforce development, faculty practice initiatives, and innovative models of academic-clinical integration.

The position is responsible for establishing and sustaining high-impact partnerships that advance YSN's educational, clinical, scholarly, and workforce missions while ensuring excellence in clinical learning environments, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and organizational effectiveness.

As a senior administrative leader, the Senior Director serves as a key advisor to school and health system leadership regarding emerging trends in nursing education, healthcare workforce development, academic-practice partnerships, and clinical innovation.

Strategic Planning and Organizational Leadership

  • Serves as a senior administrative leader contributing to strategic planning and institutional decision-making across YSN and YNHHS.

  • Advises executive leadership regarding workforce trends, partnership opportunities, and academic-practice strategy.

  • Leads complex cross-functional initiatives involving academic, clinical, operational, and external stakeholders.

  • Develops and monitors strategic goals, performance indicators, and outcome measures aligned with organizational priorities.

  • Promotes a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Clinical Partnerships and External Engagement

  • Leads development and implementation of YSN's clinical partnership strategy.

  • Establishes and maintains executive-level relationships with healthcare systems, community organizations, governmental agencies, and industry partners.

  • Identifies opportunities to expand YSN's clinical footprint, workforce pipelines, and scholarly collaborations.

  • Represents Yale School of Nursing in regional and national forums focused on nursing education, workforce development, and healthcare innovation.

  • Serves as an ambassador for YSN, advancing institutional visibility and strategic influence.

Faculty Practice, Innovation, and Revenue Strategy

  • Provides strategic leadership for faculty practice partnerships and secondary clinical appointment models.

  • Develops sustainable frameworks integrating faculty practice, student learning, workforce development, and clinical innovation.

  • Leads expansion of Dedicated Education Units, academic teaching practices, faculty practice initiatives, and emerging care delivery partnerships.

  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen financial sustainability through faculty practice, clinical partnerships, grants, and revenue-generating initiatives.

  • Develops metrics to evaluate educational, operational, workforce, and financial outcomes.


Required Skills and Abilities


1. Demonstrated leadership and management experience, particularly in team and project management.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
3. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
4. Experienced in strategic planning and compliance, with an understanding of regulatory and policy frameworks.
5. Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment and effectively manage resources and deadlines.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Master's degree Or Doctoral Degree.
2. Minimum ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in healthcare administration, nursing education, workforce development, academic affairs, or health system operations.
3. Demonstrated success leading complex strategic initiatives, partnerships, and organizational change.
4. Proven experience in both academic and healthcare delivery environments.
5. Proven experience leading academic-practice partnerships, workforce development initiatives, and healthcare innovation programs.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Directs one or more functional areas within an administrative department of the University and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. 2. Directs analytic and research support for educational policies and planning and develops and approves administrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of the University. 3. Directs and establishes parameters for major projects for the department and University. 4. Interprets federal policies and regulations and educates staff and administration about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of the University. 5. Directs and implements policy and program modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 6. Develops and administers an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with University policies and procedures. 7. Develops cost savings objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates contracts that range from routine to complex in nature. 8. Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the functional area consistent with University goals and objectives. 9. Directs the development of related automated systems to support the function; determines office policies and procedures for use of automated systems. 10. Directs the evaluation and selection of vendors and negotiates contract details including work steps and pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area. 11. Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature. 12. Represents the University in discussions and negotiations with various governmental agencies. 13. Directs a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees. 14. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Seven years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
