Principal Environmental Engineer Lead

In the role of Principal Environmental Engineer Lead at Micron Technology, you will direct technical aspects of environmental compliance programs supporting semiconductor manufacturing, technology development, and site operations. You will run the Air Permitting and Chemical Management Environmental Engineering teams. You will work closely with Facilities, Process Engineering, Operations, Legal, and Environmental teams to maintain compliance with environmental laws and promote Micron's sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Lead the Air Permitting and Chemical Management Environmental Engineering teams, delivering technical leadership, managing performance, offering coaching, mentoring, and advancing the development of environmental engineering professionals.
  • Design, carry out, and maintain environmental compliance programs that satisfy federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while supporting site sustainability initiatives and business objectives.
  • Evaluate facility modifications, manufacturing processes, chemicals, and operational changes to determine regulatory applicability; develop compliance strategies and maintain permits, permit modifications, operating procedures, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare, review, and submit environmental permit applications, regulatory reports, environmental impact assessments, and represent Micron during regulatory inspections, agency interactions, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Facilities, Process Engineering, Environmental, and Legal teams to ensure compliance, handle corrective actions, address environmental concerns, participate in on-call duties, and apply AI tools like Microsoft Copilot to improve efficiency and decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related technical field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in environmental compliance within manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or similar settings, including a background in guiding engineers, programs, projects, or multi-functional efforts.
  • Proven experience in environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, inspections, compliance audits, environmental management systems, and carrying out environmental compliance programs.
  • Confirmed understanding of the Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Clean Water Act (CWA), including NPDES, MSGP, CGP, SPCC requirements, and ISO 14001.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, leadership, and decision-making skills with the ability to influence collaborators at all levels of the company.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing or another highly regulated industrial environment.
  • Experience running environmental compliance programs that include air permitting, chemical management, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory strategy development.
  • Understanding of environmental permitting, agency communications, environmental inspections, compliance audits, root cause analysis, and corrective action management.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, advanced technical degree, or relevant environmental certifications.
  • Confirmed ability to lead technical teams, influence across organizations, and drive continuous improvement in environmental compliance and environmental performance.
  •  Good understanding of Agentic AI or willingness to learn Agentic AI to help developed efficient workflow.
