Amentum is seeking to hire an Environmental Project Manager to join our growing team in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, the successful candidate will assist in delivering environmental solutions for both private and government sector clients, particularly on hazardous waste sites. Responsibilities include leading and managing environmental remediation projects, developing and implementing remedial action plans, overseeing site assessments and field activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, preparing technical reports, interacting with clients and agencies, and staying updated on industry best practices.

As Environmental Project Manager, you’ll lead and support environmental remediation projects that make a real difference to the environment. You will lead projects from planning through execution, remedy assessment and selection, and ultimately implementing remediation strategies while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. You’ll oversee multi-disciplinary project teams, support proposal efforts, and provide mentorship to junior staff.

The role combines office work with periodic field assignments requiring occasional travel with overnight stays. Strict safety protocols and procedures are in place to promote a safe and productive work environment for all employees. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage environmental remediation projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory programs including Pennsylvania’s Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Act (Act 2), Storage Tank Program, Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act, CERCLA, RCRA, and others

  • Support proposal efforts across a wide range of scopes and markets

  • Develop scope, schedule, and budget for assigned project, ensuring project goals and objectives are met, on time and on budget while maintaining project controls throughout

  • Manage projects from inception to completion with regulatory compliance and a demonstrated ability to manage projects safely and efficiently

  • Work with and lead a project team consisting of technicians, scientists, and engineers to meet project objectives and maintain client satisfaction

  • Prepare work plans, support remedial designs, and prepare final project reports

  • Excel at communications, ensuring all stakeholders are consistently informed on project progress and execution

  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Manage a variety of subcontractors, ensuring quality and delivery

  • Actively participate in environmental remediation projects, including developing Work Plans / Scopes of Work, establishing and maintaining project schedules, tracking project costs, developing cost-estimates, evaluating bids for subcontractor services, updating Health and Safety Plans (Site-Specific), implementing and leading safety protocols for field activities.

  • Ensure environmental compliance by reviewing environmental regulations and supporting environmental permitting and other compliance needs.

  • Interpret and organize diverse environmental data sets using spreadsheets, graphs or models, data analysis, in technical reporting phases.

  • Apply a foundation in natural sciences with engineering principles to explain environmental observations and develop effective solutions to complex environmental issues and problems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related sciences (geology, chemistry, or physics).

  • Bachelor’s degrees with 10-yr experience, Master degrees with 8 yr experience, or PhD degrees with 5-yr experience. Experience managing projects and navigating regulations, proficiency with environmental software and tools, understanding of environmental remediation principles and techniques, effective communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential qualities for the successful candidate.

  • Valid driver license is required.

  • Experience (5-10+ years) in the environmental field, environmental engineering, or geology/hydrogeology, ideally with environmental remediation experience.

  • Knowledge of EPA and state remediation regulations (CERCLA, RCRA), experience with Pennsylvania’s Land Recycling Program (Act 2), Storage Tank Program, or Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act (HSCA) is beneficial.

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill technical information clearly to diverse audiences within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Desire and ability to deliver quality work and solve problems with critical thinking and sound judgment.

  • Driven to take ownership of projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and thrive in a collaborative, team environment that fosters personal and professional growth.

  • Availability for periodic overnight travel.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and work in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing, including a respirator.

  • Amentum will provide 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER or refresher training if the selected candidate does not already possess this certification.

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $107,340 - $154, 666 (Annually) (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
