Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Software Engineering Manager (Level 1) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. Boulder is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and only 25 miles from downtown Denver.

Our team is chartered with providing the skills and innovative technologies to develop, design, produce and sustain optimized product lines across the sector while providing a decisive advantage to the warfighter. Northrop Grumman Space Systems seeks a talented professional to join the Advanced Space Processing E&S team in Boulder, CO as a Software Engineering Functional Manager Level 1 managing a team of Algorithms/Analysis Engineers and/or Software Engineers.
Essential Functions:
- This is a dual role encompassing both functional management and technical performance within the Advanced Space Processing Portfolio (BOA or Advanced Programs) team.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance
- Will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline preferred from an accredited institution and 5 years of experience, or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree; or 1 year of experience with a PhD.
- Must be experienced in all aspects of the engineering development lifecycle
- Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in collaborating with and leading engineering teams.
- Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must.
- High proficiency in technical problem solving
- Familiarity with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) and Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) sensors and simulations
- Familiarity with the Missile Defense System
- Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time to support business needs.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty
- Direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership
- Working knowledge of OPIR sensors, with respect to focal plane resolution, sensitivity, and line of sight considerations for the purpose of tracking
- Experience in tracking and prediction algorithms
- Unix/Linux operating system expertise (RHEL)
- Experience with C/C++ software language, development tools, and integrated development environments (IDEs)
- Agile development experience
