Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Leader to join the Avionics – Core Services & Libraries organization in Bangalore.
In this role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of middleware, core software libraries, and platform-level software applications supporting Collins Aerospace avionics products.
You will combine strong technical expertise with people leadership and program execution, guiding engineering teams through complex New Product Development programs and ensuring delivery against scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality objectives.

What You Will Do
Technical & Engineering Leadership
- Lead software engineering teams by providing clear technical direction, purpose, and motivation.
- Provide technical leadership for the development of middleware, core software libraries, and platform software applications.
- Lead software development across the product lifecycle, from initial planning through verification, validation, and certification.
- Guide teams developing software for real-time operating systems, preferably VxWorks.
- Drive strong engineering practices, technical reviews, software quality, and continuous improvement.
Program & Project Leadership
- Develop and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, and delivery strategies.
- Drive execution across Scope, Schedule, Cost, Safety, and Quality objectives.
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, and ensure timely resolution of technical challenges.
- Present project status, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Ensure successful delivery of complex and integrated software solutions.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and expectations.
- Build strong relationships with customers, program teams, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Influence technical decisions and drive alignment across teams, even without direct authority.
- Manage technical changes and communicate project progress effectively.
People & Talent Leadership
- Set clear objectives and expectations for the engineering team.
- Monitor performance and ensure achievement of key technical and business targets.
- Hire, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering talent.
- Create opportunities for engineers to grow their technical and leadership capabilities.
- Promote a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Systems, Hardware, Software, Program Management, Certification, and Engineering teams.
- Drive integration of complex software solutions across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Support new product development programs and ensure alignment with aerospace engineering and certification requirements.

Qualifications You Must Have
- 12+ years of relevant experience in embedded software, avionics software, middleware, platform software, or a related area.
- At least 1 year of leadership or people management experience.
- Strong experience in software design and development for avionics, aircraft applications, middleware, or platform-level software.
- Experience leading software development on real-time operating systems, preferably VxWorks.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering, certification, customer, and program teams.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and engineering processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive decisions without direct authority.
- Strong focus on software quality, process compliance, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Agile environment with a high level of ownership and accountability.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leadership and customers.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience with middleware, core software libraries, or platform-level software applications from planning through certification.
- Strong knowledge of DO-178B/C, preferably at Design Assurance Level A (DAL A).
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with configuration management, requirements management, defect tracking, and revision-control tools.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Git, Subversion, and JIRA.
- Experience managing complex New Product Development (NPD) programs.
- Experience working across global and geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder and customer management experience.
- Experience driving engineering process improvements and operational excellence.
- Exposure to AI/ML implementation in engineering design, automation, analytics, or digital transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and retain strong technical teams.
Educational Qualification
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
- Computer Science Engineering
- Electronics & Communication Engineering
- Avionics
- Software Engineering
- or another relevant engineering discipline.
General Engineering Requirement:
Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience with 8+ years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
For engineering/technical positions, a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with relevant professional experience is typically required, subject to applicable local laws and regulations.
