Job Summary
HP PageWide Web Press technology powers some of the world’s most productive industrial printing systems, operating 24x7 in demanding customer production environments. This role develops the software and firmware that directly control and optimize large-scale electromechanical systems where milliseconds matter and software quality directly impacts uptime, print quality, and customer revenue.
You will work across the full product lifecycle, delivering Digital Front End (DFE), Press Software, and Firmware solutions—from architecture and design through on-press validation and customer deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, integrate, and maintain software and/or firmware for HP PageWide Web Press platforms.
- Build distributed, multi-threaded, and event-driven systems interacting with real-time hardware and industrial controls.
- Translate product and system requirements into robust, maintainable implementations.
- Collaborate with writing systems, industrial controls, mechanical, electrical, quality, service, and product teams.
- Execute automated and manual test strategies, including lab and on-press validation.
- Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews.
- Investigate and resolve issues found in development and customer environments.
Role Focus Areas (depending on background and interests)
- Digital Front End (DFE): Print pipelines, workflow, performance optimization.
- Press Software: Press orchestration, configuration, and state management.
- Firmware / Embedded: Real-time device control, interactions with ASIC and FPGA, and diagnostics
Innovation & AI-Assisted Capabilities (Optional)
- Apply AI-assisted techniques to improve engineering productivity and diagnostics where appropriate.
- Ensure deterministic and safety-critical behavior remains intact.
Education & Experience Recommended
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
- Typically has 4-6 years of work experience, preferably in software designing & development, software architecture, programming languages, or a related field.
- Industrial automation, embedded systems, robotics, or manufacturing experience valued.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in software and/or firmware development languages such as C/C++, Java, Groovy, Scala, JavaScript.
- Experience with distributed, multi-threaded, or event-driven systems.
- Understanding software, firmware, and hardware interaction.
- Familiarity with Agile development and CI/CD practices.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and quality-driven development.
- Experience with industrial, embedded, or high-reliability systems.
- Exposure to commercial or industrial printing, automation, or press systems.
- Experience with open-source software, third-party integration, or cybersecurity practices.
- Ability to work across multiple software and firmware domains.
- Applied AI / Agentic Systems (Preferred):
- Familiarity with agent-based or tool-orchestrated AI systems.
- Understanding of evaluation, observability, and safety considerations.
- Experience integrating AI into existing production systems.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this role is $105,050.00 - 152,350.00 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
