Amentum is seeking a Fuel Distribution System Operator to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Fuel Distribution System Operator is responsible for the storage, handling, and distribution of petroleum products in compliance with established policies and operating procedures. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and consistent operation of fuel storage and constant-pressure fuel dispensing systems to meet mission-critical requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Fuel System Operations:
  • Operating and maintaining constant-pressure fuel dispensing and storage systems in accordance with industry and government standards.
  • Managing the storage and distribution of petroleum products, ensuring the availability and proper handling of such products for mission-critical operations.
  • Monitoring fuel system operations, including fuel quality, flow rates, and inventory levels, to avoid disruptions in service.
  • Conducting routine and scheduled inspections of all equipment, such as pumps, valves, tanks, and pipelines, to ensure systems are functional and in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Following all safety protocols to handle hazardous materials, including the proper containment and storage of fuel products to prevent spillage and contamination.
  • Ensuring all operations adhere to applicable federal guidelines and Navy instructions regarding fuel management.
  • Identifying and addressing safety concerns or operational hazards in a proactive and effective manner.
  • Complying with environmental regulations related to petroleum storage and distribution.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Recording metrics for fuel received, stored, and distributed, ensuring all records are accurate and up to date.
  • Completing and maintaining logs, inventory reports, and system maintenance documentation.
  • Submitting operational reports to supervisors and assisting with audits and inspections to verify compliance and ensure operational readiness.
  • Required to comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and orders applicable to their actions and conduct. The role demands consistent, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proactive reporting of workplace hazards, and total adherence to safety protocols to maintain a zero-injury environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years of applicable experience in the storage and distribution of petroleum products, with a focus on operations of constant pressure-type fuel dispensing and storage systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of fuel storage, fuel dispensing systems, and the handling of petroleum products.
  • Familiarity with fuel system safety standards and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills for maintaining fuel system equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical manuals, schematics, and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for accurate record-keeping and compliance monitoring.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Valid country driver’s license with an endorsement to operate fuel dispensing vehicles or equipment.
  • Familiarity with Navy or Department of Defense fuel distribution, storage, and handling systems and processes.
  • Relevant certifications in fuel handling, safety operations, or hazardous materials management.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
