Summary of Job Duties:

** This job posting will fill two positions**

The Distribution Technician is responsible for supporting the centralized pharmacy distribution operations of the health system through accurate medication receiving, inventory management, replenishment, picking, packing, delivery, and distribution activities across inpatient, ambulatory, clinic, and infusion service lines. This position works closely with pharmacy procurement, warehouse, and operational leadership to ensure timely and compliant medication movement throughout the organization while maintaining appropriate inventory control standards, medication security, and regulatory compliance. The Distribution Technician assists with daily operations involving pharmaceutical wholesaler orders, internal stock transfers, automated dispensing cabinet replenishment support, controlled workflow processes, cold-chain product handling, expiration date monitoring, shortage mitigation support, and management of pharmaceutical supplies and packaging materials. The technician is expected to maintain a high level of accuracy, organization, and customer service while supporting efficient medication distribution and minimizing waste and drug spend.


The Distribution Technician operates within established pharmacy policies, health system procedures, and applicable regulatory standards including state board of pharmacy requirements, USP standards, and health system safety protocols. Responsibilities may include operation of inventory technology systems, barcode scanning platforms, automated storage systems, and distribution software to document medication movement and maintain inventory integrity. This role collaborates with pharmacists, buyers, clinic staff, couriers, and supply chain personnel to resolve distribution issues, support emergency medication requests, coordinate backorder or shortage substitutions, and maintain continuity of patient care services across multiple sites of care.


Qualifications:

Minimum Quallifications:

  • Three (3) years relevant pharmacy technician work experience (i.e. retail, hospital, etc.)

  • Pharmacy Technician License by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy

  • National Technician Certification (PTCB)

  • Computer Skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and EMR experience)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Good/Strong Math Skills

  • Prior experience in a specialized role - Automation, Controlled Substances, Pharmacy Buyer, Investigational Drugs, Medication Reconciliation, IV Compounding Specialist, WAM Orders Entry

  • ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training or certified program (i.e. PTCB Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician, ASHP Sterile Compounding Certificate, etc.) Relevant pharmacy technician experience (i.e. retail, hospital, etc.)

Responsibilities:

  • Receives, verifies, and stocks pharmaceutical inventory from wholesalers, manufacturers, 340B accounts, and internal transfers

  • Maintains accurate inventory levels and replenishment processes for inpatient pharmacies, ambulatory clinics, infusion centers, procedural areas, and automated dispensing systems

  • Picks, packs, stages, and coordinates medication deliveries accurately and efficiently across multiple sites of care

  • Performs barcode scanning, inventory tracking, cycle counts, expiration date monitoring, and discrepancy resolution activities

  • Supports management of pharmaceutical inventory across GPO, WAC, and 340B purchasing accounts while maintaining inventory integrity and segregation requirements

  • Maintains cold-chain handling and storage requirements for refrigerated and frozen medications

  • Assists with medication shortage mitigation strategies, substitution workflows, and emergency inventory requests

  • Processes returns, recalls, expired medications, damaged product documentation, and reverse distribution activities in accordance with policy

  • Maintains organization, cleanliness, and security of warehouse, storage, and distribution areas

  • Operates and troubleshoots pharmacy inventory technology systems, barcode systems, automated storage equipment, and distribution software platforms Assists with controlled substance inventory workflows and maintains appropriate security and documentation standards

  • Coordinates replenishment and delivery priorities based on operational urgency and patient care needs

  • Responds promptly and professionally to medication distribution requests from inpatient units, clinics, infusion centers, and procedural areas

  • Communicates effectively with pharmacists, buyers, technicians, nursing staff, and operational leaders regarding inventory issues, backorders, and delivery status

  • Supports timely resolution of stock-outs, missing medication requests, and urgent distribution needs

  • Maintains strong customer service standards while ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and confidentiality

  • Assists with delivery documentation, routing workflows, and courier coordination activities

  • Maintains compliance with state board of pharmacy regulations, USP standards, health system policies, and accreditation requirements

  • Adheres to medication handling procedures for hazardous drugs and other high-risk medications

  • Maintains active Arkansas Pharmacy Technician registration and national technician certification as required

  • Demonstrates flexibility to support multiple operational areas and changing distribution priorities

  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
Medium Work | Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Requirements: close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.
