Technical Lead, Agentic Commerce Engineering
Job Description
Ready to take your career global?
Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for a Technical Lead, Agentic Commerce Engineering to join our ever-evolving agentic commerce engineering team and help shape the future of global commerce.
What you’ll own
We are building the future of autonomous commerce. As AI agents begin to discover products, compare options, build carts, and initiate purchases on behalf of consumers, the payments layer needs new infrastructure for trust, identity, user intent, authentication, tokenization, fraud signals, and real-time transaction visibility.
As Technical Lead in Agentic Commerce Engineering, you will help define and build that infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who wants to shape a new capability, influence emerging standards, and build systems that handle real transaction flow on a global scale.
AI Agent Integrations
Lead the design and delivery of secure checkout and payment APIs that AI agents can invoke reliably and deterministically, including support for concepts such as UCP, ACP, AP2, agentic tokens, delegated credentials, verifiable intent, and MPP.
Define platform patterns for agent identity, delegated authority, user intent, authentication, tokenization, fraud signals, evidence records, reporting, and downstream payment integration.
Partner with internal teams and external ecosystem participants, including standards groups and AI commerce partners, to help shape practical, interoperable approaches to agent-led payments.
API & SDK Development
Architect and ship merchant-facing APIs and SDKs that are easy to integrate, with clear contracts, predictable error handling, strong documentation, sandbox-friendly flows, and excellent developer experience.
Champion developer experience by designing for discoverability, fast time-to-first-transaction, reliable testing, and feedback loops from merchants, partners, and external developers.
Contribute to API governance and platform standards across the wider engineering organization.
Technical Leadership
Set technical direction for a greenfield agentic commerce squad, balancing speed, interoperability, security, reliability, and long-term platform extensibility.
Provide hands-on leadership through architecture reviews, design decisions, code reviews, mentoring, incident learning, and engineering standards.
Help recruit and develop AI-forward engineers who are curious, high-agency, and excited to build in a category that is still being defined.
What you’ll bring
An opinionated voice to help shape the future of agentic commerce
Outstanding communication skills, you will know how to read the room and know how to build solid working relationships at all levels
8+ years of software engineering experience, including architecture and production ownership of distributed services, APIs, or transaction-processing platforms that require high reliability, security, observability, and operational readiness.
Strong cloud-native engineering experience on AWS, GCP, Azure or comparable public cloud environments, with the ability to make pragmatic architecture decisions across scalability, resilience, deployment, monitoring, and cost.
Practical understanding of AI-agent systems, including how agents use tools, APIs, structured inputs and outputs, delegated permissions, and external services to complete tasks, plus the judgment to design safe, deterministic, and auditable payment flows around those behaviors.
Proven technical leadership experience, including architecture ownership, mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, influencing cross-functional teams, and making clear tradeoffs in ambiguous or emerging product areas.
Experience designing API-first platforms with clear contracts, versioning, documentation, testing strategies, predictable error handling, secure integration patterns, and strong developer experience.
It’s a bonus if you have
Experience in payments, fintech, commerce platforms, card-not-present processing, checkout, gateways, tokenization, 3DS/SCA, fraud/risk systems, dispute workflows, merchant reporting, or other real-time money movement platforms.
Experience with LLM-powered applications, AI agent frameworks, tool-calling systems, MCP-style integrations, A2A-style protocols, or standards work related to agent identity, delegated authority, verifiable intent, safe AI integration, or agentic commerce.
Public engineering presence or ecosystem involvement, such as meaningful GitHub contributions, open-source participation, standards work, technical writing, conference/forum attendance and active participation, community engagement, or experience building greenfield products in complex enterprise environments.
