Role Title: Systems Engineer

Role Description:
The Systems Engineer is accountable to the  Project Engineer Manager and provides systems engineering support within the engineering framework.

The role supports the review and assurance of system-level artefacts, including, system planning, integration, test and evaluation (T&E), across Mission and Support Systems, and the execution of system reviews. The position contributes to maintaining documentation repositories for engineering activities in compliance with Defence policy, regulatory requirements and legislated standards.

This role operates under general direction, contributing to engineering outcomes within a complex, collaborative, and multi-national environment aligned to the program.

Working under broad direction, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•    Support development, review and assurance of systems engineering artefacts and technical documentation.
•    Conduct review of contract deliverables and documentation that describe Systems Engineering activities.
•    Assist in Commonwealth activities to oversight and review Mandated System Reviews, including provision of recommendations on preparedness for entry into reviews.
•    Manage actions arising from Mandated System Reviews and other technical reviews including contractor design reviews, verification and validation (V&V) reviews and acceptance events for the A-OTHR Mission System and Support System.
•    Contribute to technical assessments to ensure system designs meet performance requirements and the Functional Baseline contracted by the Commonwealth.
•    Provide systems engineering input into system architecture, design reviews, and engineering decisions.
•    Support development and maintenance of engineering documentation, including specifications, test plans, meeting minutes and system reviews.
•    Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support delivery of agreed technical outcomes.
•    Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), contributing to shared engineering objectives.
•    Assist in identifying technical risks and support mitigation activities.
•    Support compliance with engineering governance, regulatory and legislative requirements.
•    Maintain awareness of relevant technologies, engineering processes, tools and standards.

Essential Requirements:
•    Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a professional engineer.
•    Eligible to access ITAR-controlled information
•    Demonstrated experience (approx. 5–10+ years) in a relevant engineering role
•    Understanding of systems engineering methods, system design and development processes
•    Experience supporting systems engineering activities for major capital acquisition
•    Ability to apply established engineering standards, tools and processes
•    Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
•    Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
•    Ability to manage own work and priorities under general direction

Desirable Requirements:

•    Experience with Systems Engineering tools and methods
•    Experience within Defence or similar high assurance environments
•    Experience with systems engineering practices
•    Familiarity with JORN or OTHR capability
•    Knowledge of relevant Defence engineering frameworks and standards

Required Security Clearance Level: NV1
