Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Huntsville, AL campus. 

The successful candidate will design and develop system architectures and define key capabilities and performance requirements. They will define design and technology maturity constraints of the system in accordance with customer specifications, develop thorough definition of system external interfaces, and define system implementation approaches and operational concepts to ensures requirements are met and evaluates performance with customer. 

Essential functions include: 

  • Assist in development of system architecture for the GWS network and infrastructure team 

  • Architecture, planning, and use case development using systems engineering methodologies. 

  • - Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. 

  • - Perform system requirements analysis as they pertain to the GWS contract. 

  • - Automation workflow development of multi-disciplined functional processes in support of various engineering and business processes.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years of relevant experience; 10 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; 8 years of relevant experience with a PhD 

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application 

  • Experience using Jira/Confluence to collaborate regarding tasking and work instructions inside a team 

  • Experience in creating and delivering technical presentations to internal and external leadership 

  • Experience working collaboratively on complex projects that encompass hardware, software, and firmware 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Demonstrated leadership of junior staff and the ability to influence decisions in a fast-paced environment 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in Agile Development and leadership experience working within Agile Scrum frameworks 

  • Hands-on experience with JIRA, Confluence, and secure DevSecOps practices 

  • Experience with ground communications systems and knowledge of GMD and GWS products and services 

  • Experience working with Network and Infrastructure technologies such as Cisco or Juniper 

  • Strong understanding and broad application of engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities 

  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations 


 

Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
