A Day in the Life

The Senior Manager, Wound Management R&D will play a key leadership role in strengthening the New Product Development (NPD) organization within Wound Management. This individual will drive technical excellence, execution discipline, and organizational effectiveness while helping build a high-performing team focused on delivering meaningful innovation for patients and customers.

This role requires a leader who can effectively balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, bringing structure to complex development efforts, fostering accountability, and accelerating decision-making. The successful candidate will develop talent, elevate team performance, and ensure programs are executed with rigor from concept through development.

         

         

Key Responsibilities


  • Serve as a change agent by driving accountability, execution discipline, and operational excellence across the Wound Management R&D organization.
  • Provide leadership to their team by aligning and prioritizing strategic initiatives, communicating OU, R&D, and Business priorities, and effectively planning, prioritizing, and directing the responsibilities of direct reports to achieve business and individual objectives.
  • Coach and develop team reports to enhance technical proficiency in suture products and foster a culture of accountability, creative problem-solving, effective barrier removal, and timely escalation of risks and gaps within their core/extended teams.
  • Provide technical leadership as the Tech CTM for at least one New Product Development (NPD) program, while actively participating in other extended technical teams for other programs to support and guide their team members.
  • Drive program execution by ensuring clear plans, robust risk management, sound technical decision-making, and achievement of key milestones.
  • Communicate program status, risks, tradeoffs, decisions, and resource needs effectively to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
  • Build strong partnerships across R&D, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, Clinical, and Commercial functions to enable successful product development and commercialization.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for Wound Management products and technologies with internal stakeholders, customers, and commercial partners.
  • Partner with the R&D Director and functional leaders to strengthen organizational culture, employee engagement, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead talent development activities, including performance management, succession planning, coaching, and capability building.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading technical efforts for New Product Development programs.
  • Broad knowledge of wound closure technologies, suture products, manufacturing processes, biomaterials, and absorbable polymers.
  • Strong understanding of design controls, risk management, technical problem-solving methodologies, the Medtronic Product Development Process (PDP) and Design Review Management (DRM) principles (Green Belt or Black Belt certification).
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of people leadership and/or Technical Core Team leadership experience; or
  • Advanced degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of people leadership and/or Technical Core Team leadership experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$171,200.00 - $256,800.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).
