As the Senior IT Principal Architect for Medtronic’s SAP Business AI Platform, you will lead the enterprise SAP architecture vision across S/4HANA, SAP Business AI, SAP BTP, ABAP Cloud, integration, APIs, events, data, and automation. This role combines strategic leadership and hands-on delivery, partnering with IT, business, Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, Data, Risk, and Compliance to define technology strategy, governance, standards, roadmaps, and investment priorities that modernize the enterprise and enable AI-driven transformation. It requires deep expertise in SAP architecture, enterprise integration, API management, event-driven design, cloud integration, data integration, and modern application architecture.
The ideal resource for this role should be a seasoned SAP professional with a proven track record in navigating both ECC and S/4 HANA landscapes. Your expertise should extend to platform capabilities, architecture, project leadership, security, and compliance to ensure effective and optimal utilization of SAP systems to drive business success.

SAP STRATEGY & ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE
- Define and own the enterprise SAP and integration technology strategy and architecture vision in alignment with business strategy and enterprise architecture principles.
- Set guiding principles, best practices and standards, contribute to technology and application selection with SAP Enterprise Architecture organization
- Develop and maintain a 3–5 year technology roadmap covering S/4HANA, SAP Business AI, SAP BTP, ABAP Cloud, Application and B2B Integration, APIs, event-driven architecture, data, analytics, automation, and emerging technologies.
- Define target-state architecture and transition roadmaps for SAP and enterprise application modernization.
- Lead technical remediation efforts during the upgrade of ECC to S/4HANA, enable transformational capabilities to be enabled, promote clean-core adoption, implement cloud strategy, integration modernization, and SAP platform rationalization.
- Establish enterprise architecture principles that enable interoperability between SAP, non-SAP, SaaS, cloud, legacy, and emerging technology platforms.
- Evaluate emerging SAP and integration technologies and determine their applicability to the enterprise.
SAP BUSINESS AI AND INTELLIGENT ENTERPRISE
- Establish the architecture strategy for SAP Business AI and AI-enabled business processes using SAP Joule and other augmenting AI platforms and technologies
- Define integration patterns for connecting AI capabilities with SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP, enterprise applications, data platforms, and external AI services.
- Establish secure and governed patterns for exposing enterprise data and business processes to AI applications and agents.
- Define architecture standards for AI-enabled APIs, events, workflows, agents, and intelligent automation.
- Ensure AI solutions address security, privacy, data governance, model risk, regulatory requirements, explainability, and responsible AI principles.
S/4 HANA AND SAP PLATFORM MODERNIZATION
- Provide architecture leadership for SAP S/4HANA transformation and modernization initiatives.
- Define principles for SAP clean-core architecture, extensibility, custom-code remediation, APIs, integration, and upgrade-safe architectures.
- Determine appropriate placement of functionality across S/4HANA, SAP BTP, enterprise platforms, and external applications.
- Drive modernization of legacy ABAP customizations toward ABAP Cloud, released APIs, side-by-side extensions, and event-driven architectures.
- Establish standards for SAP-to-SAP and SAP-to-non-SAP integration.
ENTERPRISE INTEGRATION ARCHITECTURE
- Own and define the enterprise integration architecture strategy and roadmap for SAP and non-SAP ecosystems.
- Establish integration principles, reference architectures, technology standards, design patterns, and governance processes.
- Design and govern scalable integration architectures supporting real-time, near-real-time, batch, synchronous, asynchronous, API-led, event-driven, and file-based integration.
- Define the strategic use of SAP Integration Suite, API Management, Cloud Integration, Event Mesh, enterprise service buses, messaging platforms, and integration middleware.
- Establish enterprise standards for API-first and event-driven architecture.
- Define API lifecycle management standards including API design, security, versioning, discoverability, reuse, monitoring, and retirement.
- Establish enterprise event standards covering event modeling, event contracts, schemas, publishing, subscription, resiliency, and governance.
- Drive modernization from point-to-point and tightly coupled integrations toward loosely coupled, reusable, API-led and event-driven architectures.
- Define integration patterns for connecting S/4HANA with SaaS applications, legacy systems, data platforms, cloud services, partner ecosystems, and external applications.
- Establish integration security standards covering authentication, authorization, certificates, encryption, secrets management, identity propagation, and secure API access.
- Govern integration reliability, performance, scalability, observability, error handling, retry mechanisms, resiliency, and disaster recovery.
- Establish enterprise standards for integration monitoring, operational support, alerting, logging, tracing, and end-to-end transaction visibility.
- Reduce integration complexity and technical debt through integration rationalization, platform consolidation, reusable services, and common integration patterns.
- Provide architecture leadership for enterprise integration initiatives and serve as the escalation point for complex integration decisions.
ABAP AND DEVELOPMENT ARCHITECTURE
- Serve as the senior architecture authority for ABAP and SAP application development standards.
- Define development principles for ABAP Cloud, RAP, APIs, extensions, Fiori, and SAP BTP applications.
- Ensure ABAP development follows clean-core, API-first, cloud-ready, secure, and upgrade-safe principles.
- Drive custom-code governance, remediation, rationalization, and technical-debt reduction.
- Promote reusable APIs, services, integration components, frameworks, and development accelerators.
TECHNOLOGY GOVERNANCE AND ARCHITECTURE REVIEW
- Establish and lead an SAP, Integration & Technology Architecture Governance framework.
- Chair or actively participate in architecture review boards and technology governance forums.
- Define and enforce architecture standards, reference architectures, approved technology stacks, integration patterns, and technology principles.
- Review and approve strategic SAP, integration, API, cloud, AI, and application architectures.
- Govern architecture exceptions and ensure deviations are documented, risk-assessed, time-bound, and approved.
- Establish architecture decision records, technology standards, reusable patterns, and governance controls.
- Provide technical oversight across major SAP transformation and integration programs.
SECURITY, RISK, AND COMPLIANCE
- Partner with Cybersecurity, Risk, Privacy, Internal Audit, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure SAP and integration architectures satisfy enterprise control requirements.
- Establish security-by-design principles for applications, APIs, integrations, events, data, SAP platforms, and AI capabilities.
- Ensure integration architectures comply with enterprise security policies, regulatory requirements, privacy standards, and industry controls.
- Govern identity propagation and access controls across SAP and non-SAP integration landscapes.
- Establish controls for API security, data protection, encryption, audit logging, monitoring, and traceability.
- Identify and mitigate architectural, cybersecurity, operational, regulatory, integration, and technology risks.

- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of experience with an advanced degree

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California.
