Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Senior Principal Air Vehicle Management Engineer (Level 4) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future. This position will be located at our partner site in Marietta, GA, with a potential future relocation to Melbourne, FL based on business needs.

As the Air Vehicle Manager, you will serve as a key member of the Modification Engineering team within the Vehicle Engineering IPT, leading and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts to support aircraft modifications, ensuring technical execution, and acting as a vital link between engineering, program management, and customers.

Note: This is an individual contributor (IC) role with no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide real-time engineering solutions during aircraft modifications, including identifying, evaluating, and recommending corrective actions for non-conforming parts during modifications and installations.
  • Coordinate across design engineering, manufacturing, Global Supply Chain (GSC), and other related disciplines to resolve technical and process issues.
  • Manage stakeholder integration by coordinating technical modifications to baseline configurations with Chief Engineers, Program Managers, and external clients.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Apply basic subsystems knowledge, including electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids, and propulsion systems.
  • Support structural design activities with a focus on metallic structures.
  • Utilize 3D CAD tools (NX/CPLM) to support detailed design tasks.
  • Coordinate daily with suppliers and Northrop Grumman teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment on project goals.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related professional/military experience.

  • Must have an active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Top Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs, with an Interim Top Secret clearance required prior to start.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.

  • Experience with design CAD tools, such as NX, CPLM, or similar platforms

  • Experience in supplier/customer relationship management, including briefing, coordinating, and/or following up.

  • Experience working in an aircraft manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering groups and interfacing effectively with employees, management, and customers.
  • Ability and willingness to work full-time on-site in both Marietta, GA and Melbourne, FL as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active US Government Top Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Extensive background in Airframe and Electrical design with a focus on aircraft modifications.
  • Experience interfacing with military customers.
  • Hands-on experience in a production assembly line environment.
  • Experience with aircraft subsystem design.
  • Certification in Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Excellent communication skills, leadership, and problem solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of subsystems: electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids and propulsion systems.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
