Law Clerk III - Constitutional Law
The Opportunity:
The Law Clerk III position is a unique role which affords the law clerk the opportunity to become a niche expert by conducting complex legal research and performing deep dive substantive document reviews on assigned investigations and cases. This role works closely with the DOJ attorney teams to develop case strategies, review and analyze evidence and make recommendations to further the investigations, and assist with drafting motions, memorandums, and briefs. You will have high level of visibility and often interact with the attorneys and experts to prepare for interviews, depositions and trial.

Responsibilities:
This position supports the DOJ Environmental/Energy and Natural Resource Division, Natural Resources Section. The Law Clerk works under the direction of a Project Manager and well as having frequent contact with DOJ Attorneys in performance of complex legal research; preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc.; reviewing documents for relevance and privilege; and assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation. The ideal candidate acts independently and/or as a team leader on larger projects. Responsibilities may include acting as primary interface with trial attorneys, experts, and other client staff. This position will have particular focus on Constitutional Law, 5th Amendment Takings litigation.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must have a law degree.
- Must have three to five years of progressively more responsible experience on litigation support projects including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys.
- Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
- Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
- Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
- DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US Citizenship required).
