The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers.  The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA. 

Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a second shift, Inspector 2 in our Metal Parts Inspection (MPI) department reporting into Mission Assurance area in our Elkton, Maryland facility.

Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical inspection on manufactured/purchased components and assemblies.
  • Visually inspect for defects. Verify parts or materials meet specifications indicated. 
  • Create inspection reports as needed from drawings or verbal direction.
  • Perform mathematical calculations.
  • Perform first article inspections from the Machine Shop.  Perform in-process inspections, mechanical and electrical, on subassemblies and final assemblies in the production area.
  • Operate Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), using PC-DMIS software, including development and maintenance of programs, set up and execution.
  • Be flexible in work skills and daily tasks assigned.

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience performing mechanical inspections.
  • Understand principles of GD&T (trigonometry, and geometry).
  • Skilled in using standard measuring equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and knowledgeable with geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
  • Must be able to interact with and assist Manufacturing and Engineering personnel in regards to part conformance and process capability.
  • Safety oriented and willing to work with explosive components.
  • Strong computer skills i.e. Office, Quality systems, Inventory etc.
  • Willing to work overtime, as needed
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Shift work required.
  • Capable of obtaining a Secret level government security clearance for which US Citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Requirement:

  • Lean manufacturing knowledge.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Six Sigma certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
  • Knowledge of PC DMIS Software.

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location.  Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor

   

Primary Level Salary Range: $45,100.00 - $75,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
