Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Cable and Harness Technician – Level 1 or Level 2 to join our team in Dulles, VA. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

   

The Cable & Harness Technician – Level 1 or Level 2 position entails the fabrication and assembly of complex Space flight cable and harnesses assemblies from drawings, schematics, wire lists, or engineering sketches in conformance with government specifications and workmanship standards. Assembly is performed in a professional atmosphere in a ESD and FOD controlled area. Daily work attire always includes lab coat and latex gloves. Regular use of soldering iron, crimpers, strippers, tweezers, heat gun, and other common hand tools.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

In this job, you will:

  • Capable and experienced in working in a broad-based manufacturing environment.

  • Technician will work with a team including Manufacturing Engineers, Technical Writers, Quality Assurance Representatives, and Production Planners.

  • Technician will report to the Manufacturing Manager.

  • Must work well alone and within a team environment

  • Must possess good problem-solving skills, organizational skills, communication skills, and work with limited supervision

  • Must be a self-starter, must be self-motivated, and a team player

  • Must have the ability to focus and have a strong attention to detail

  • No heavy lifting required, equal standing and sitting with some reaching

  

This position can be filled at either a Level 1 or Level 2.

Basic Qualifications for Level 1:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience.   

  • No clearance required to start

  • Demonstrated capability to read, interpret, and execute tasks from complex engineering drawings, wire lists, schematics, and written work instructions.

  • Familiarity with cable shielding applications, including knowledge of constructing and terminating shielded cables with braid or drain wires.

  • Ability to maintain high-quality standards in ESD-controlled environments following strict policies for FOD compliance.

  • Familiarity with various types of connector assembly (e.g., D-Sub, circular connectors, RF connectors), including torquing and potting as required.

  • Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and processing/managing shop floor documentation.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills to effectively collaborate with manufacturing engineers, quality assurance, and other technicians.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing as a member of a team.

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.   

  • No clearance required to start

  • Proven proficiency in wire preparation, assembly, and testing of harnesses with attention to detail and exceptional workmanship quality.

  • Hands-on experience with high-reliability soldering techniques (to J-STD-001 Class 3 with Space Addendum or similar standards).

  • Demonstrated capability to read, interpret, and execute tasks from complex engineering drawings, wire lists, schematics, and written work instructions.

  • Familiarity with cable shielding applications, including knowledge of constructing and terminating shielded cables with braid or drain wires.

  • Ability to maintain high-quality standards in ESD-controlled environments following strict policies for FOD compliance.

  • Familiarity with various types of connector assembly (e.g., D-Sub, circular connectors, RF connectors), including torquing and potting as required.

  • Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and processing/managing shop floor documentation.

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Aerospace Industry manufacturing experience.

  • Experience with TipQA, Costpoint, Windchill, MES, Creo

  • A strong understanding of wiring processes, crimping, splicing, wire routing, and assembly techniques as it applies to IPC standard harness assembly operations

  • Familiarization with ESD, FOD, 5S, and Tool Control required

  • Preference to candidates with NASA J-STD and/or IPC 620 certifications w/ Space Addendums

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards 

Primary Level Salary Range: $47,200.00 - $78,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $56,000.00 - $93,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
