The Long Range Radars (LRR) department within the Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Center is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer, Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the GLOBUS program in Woburn, MA.  This role requires a technically exceptional engineer able to sustain and advance a dual‑band radar architecture combining modern S‑Band phased array hardware with an upgraded legacy X‑Band system. It demands deep radar and signal‑processing insight to understand how beamforming, DREX processing, and modern servo technologies interact within a complex operational sensor. The engineer must diagnose interdependent subsystem behaviors and ensure coherent hardware and software updates aligned with long‑term sustainment.

What You Will Do

  • Sustain and enhance dual‑band S‑Band/X‑Band radar performance.

  • Analyze RF behavior, array calibration, microwave dynamics, and servo/pedestal control.

  • Integrate and validate digital beamforming, DREX chains, and upgraded microwave assemblies.

  • Solve highly interdependent system‑level issues across hardware and software.

  • Collaborate with SMEs to develop, test, and confirm technical theories and system fixes.

  • Ensure upgrades remain coherent with long‑term sensor sustainment strategy.

  • This position is an onsite role based in Woburn, MA.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience in defining and driving technical execution plans.

  • Experience with radar systems and algorithms including signal processing, signal processing theory, signal architecture, and/or signal modeling.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced degree in a STEM discipline.

  • Professional experience in the aerospace or defense industry.

  • Demonstrated success working across disciplines to achieve program objectives.

  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment.

  • Proven leadership in failure investigation and root cause determination.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a history of positive collaboration in team settings.

  • Excellent communication skills, including experience presenting to customers and senior leadership.

  • Familiarity with navigating organizational structures and collaborating with stakeholders to develop solutions for critical program challenges.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
