Job Family Definition:
Responsible for ensuring comprehensive compliance with international trade regulations, customs laws, import/export requirements, and corporate policies across global logistics operations. Partners with internal and external stakeholders—including logistics, finance, government agencies, and customs brokers—to facilitate compliant, efficient cross-border transactions. Focuses on risk mitigation, process optimization, and adherence to regulatory frameworks, supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence in global trade activities.

Applies advanced subject matter expertise in customs and trade compliance to address complex business challenges. Frequently contributes to innovative solutions and process improvements. Works independently on high-impact projects, providing guidance and strategic direction to cross-functional teams. Acts as a key advisor on customs and trade regulations, representing the organization to external authorities and partners. Exercises significant judgment in managing compliance risks, process enhancements, and stakeholder engagement. May mentor junior team members and lead regional or global initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee customs broker operations, ensuring 100% compliance and accountability across regional processes.
- Develop, implement, and monitor customs and trade compliance programs, policies, and procedures aligned with global regulations.
- Review and validate customs documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, import/export declarations) to ensure accuracy and regulatory adherence.
- Manage customs clearance activities, supporting issue resolution to minimize delays and operational disruptions.
- Collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and government agencies to optimize cross-border logistics.
- Support and lead governance activities, including broker performance management and compliance audits.
- Monitor changes in international trade regulations, sanctions, and export controls; assess impacts on business operations.
- Provide training and awareness programs to internal teams on customs and trade compliance requirements.
- Identify and mitigate compliance risks through internal reviews, assessments, and corrective actions.
- Drive process standardization, automation, and system enhancements to improve operational efficiency.
- Support critical projects, including UAT testing, to ensure compliance with operational and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with legal and corporate retention policies; prepare reports for management review.
- Act as a subject matter expert in customs and international trade, advising on HS classification, valuation, rules of origin, and free trade agreements.
- Lead initiatives to optimize customs-related costs and improve clearance lead times.
- Support compliance metrics development, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, Law, Economics, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in customs compliance, international trade, or global logistics.
- Proven experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies.
- Professional certifications in customs or trade compliance preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of global import/export regulations and customs procedures.
- Expertise in HS classification, customs valuation, rules of origin, and trade agreements.
- Familiarity with export controls, sanctions compliance, and trade risk management.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred), customs and trade compliance tools, and databases.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-cultural collaboration abilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting and data analysis.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, global environment.
