The Opportunity:
CACI is seeking an Engineering Technician to support development and production of Optical Communication Terminals for space-based defense applications. This position is based in our Orlando, FL facility.

Responsibilities:

Engineering Support:

  • Provide technical support to engineering and development teams throughout product development and production phases

  • Collaborate with engineers to develop and refine troubleshooting strategies and methodologies

  • Assist engineers and manufacturing engineers with work instruction redlines and ECR/ECO process

  • Support test engineers in developing improvements of test procedures

  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues in EO systems down to the component level

  • Identify root causes of performance issues and implement effective solutions

  • Document test failures in the failure reporting system and provide detailed analysis

Documentation and Process Improvement:

  • Document test procedures, results, and troubleshooting steps in a clear and concise manner

  • Maintain up-to-date records of equipment calibration and maintenance

  • Generate detailed technical reports and analyses based on measurement data

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Training and Mentorship:

  • Demonstrate expert level knowledge on all test cells and assist in the training of new test technicians

  • Serve as a technical resource for production and test teams

Manufacturing Support (As Needed):

  • Support production builds and manufacturing test procedures as directed

  • Perform optical or electrical testing and characterization as specified by work instructions

  • Conduct tests to evaluate the performance of EO & laser components and systems

  • Perform precise EO measurements using Optical Power Meters, Spectrum Analyzers, and Network Analyzers

  • Support assembly, testing, debugging, and rework of products during pre-delivery integration, acceptance test, and delivery phases of the product life cycle

The successful candidate will be able to work as part of a team and independently, take initiative, and work well with internal and external customers.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Photonics, or a related field.

  • Equivalent combination of relevant work experience and technical training may be substituted for degree requirements

Experience:

  • US citizenship, due to nature of the work and contract requirement

  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience as an electronics technician or engineering technician

  • Proven experience with the use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of optical and electro-optical test stations/equipment

  • Experience troubleshooting EO and digital circuitry down to the component level

  • Experience using multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and optical power meters

  • Experience supporting engineering teams in product development or manufacturing environments

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of electro-optical principles and measurements

  • Proficiency in using EO test equipment and software

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend detailed written and verbal instructions, assembly instructions, test procedures, schematics, and other engineering documentation

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to lift and carry 25-45 lbs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience troubleshooting CCAs to the component level

  • IPC-A-610 certification

  • Experience with electronic systems test and evaluation

  • Familiarity with fiber optic systems and free-space optical communication

  • Experience with software development using LabVIEW or Python

  • Knowledge of laser safety protocols and procedures

Pay Range:

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$54,700 - $112,000
