Job Description:
The Director of Solutions Engineering Management will lead a customer-facing technical team responsible for accelerating adoption of HPE Networking’s Data Center portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director of Solutions Engineering Management — Data Center, this leader will translate organizational strategy into consistent execution across technical discovery, solution architecture, proof of concept, deployment readiness, production adoption, and lifecycle expansion. The role will build technical capability, strengthen cross-functional execution, and turn customer and field insight into actionable recommendations for product and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Solutions Engineers, setting clear priorities, performance standards, and development plans.
- Execute the Data Center Solutions Engineering strategy and operating model established by the Senior Director, translating business priorities into team plans and measurable outcomes.
- Own technical engagement across assigned customers, segments, or regions, including discovery, architecture, demonstrations, proofs of concept, deployment readiness, production adoption, and escalations.
- Guide customers through complex data center and AI networking decisions, including Ethernet fabrics, RDMA/RoCEv2, congestion management, VXLAN/EVPN, automation, observability, and cloud-delivered operations.
- Partner with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Customer Success, Support, and Services to develop account strategies, resolve execution gaps, and remove barriers to adoption.
- Establish consistent technical practices, solution architectures, validation methods, and field playbooks that improve quality and shorten time from proof of concept to production.
- Capture customer requirements, deployment experience, and operational feedback and convert them into clear recommendations for product, engineering, and portfolio priorities.
- Provide technical leadership during strategic pursuits, customer workshops, executive reviews, and critical issue resolution.
- Use pipeline, capacity, productivity, adoption, and customer-outcome metrics to prioritize resources, identify risks, and improve team performance.
- Contribute to talent planning, hiring, succession, and workforce decisions while building an inclusive culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Required Qualifications
- Leadership experience in Solutions Engineering, Systems Engineering, Sales Engineering, Customer Engineering, or a closely related customer-facing technical function.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing technical teams in an enterprise technology environment, including geographically distributed or matrixed teams.
- Deep knowledge of data center networking architectures and protocols, including L2/L3, Ethernet switching, VXLAN/EVPN, routing, data center network security and segmentation, automation, and network operations.
- Experience with AI infrastructure or high-performance networking concepts such as GPU clusters, RDMA/RoCEv2, lossless Ethernet, congestion management, and telemetry is strongly preferred.
- Track record of leading complex proofs of concept, production deployments, and high-impact technical or customer escalations.
- Ability to translate customer needs into solution plans, product requirements, resource priorities, and clear decisions.
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder-management skills across customers, partners, engineering, product, sales, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; an advanced degree is preferred.
