Overview
Provides lead support and coordinates work processes within the laboratory. Oversees and evaluates the workflow of laboratory staff, ensuring accurate specimen processing and compliance with safety and quality assurance protocols. Perform specialized tasks involving the preparation and examination of samples, quality assurance monitoring, and staff training. Communicates effectively with clinicians regarding patient history and test results, and assists with molecular cytology testing. Maintains accurate records and complies with privacy and safety regulations at all times. This role directly supports compatibility testing essential for organ transplantation, including HLA testing, crossmatching, antibody identification, and other time-sensitive laboratory functions that are required to safely evaluate transplant donors and recipients” and referencing the “highly specialized nature of histocompatibility testing.
Schedule: Monday - Friday Shifts: 11AM - 7PM depending on assignment; Flexible rotating/on-call schedule will include weekend days and holiday/recess periods.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Proven leadership and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
2. Strong computer skills and proficiency in laboratory information systems.
3. Excellent attendance and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a clinical environment.
4. Effective communication skills across all levels of staff and proficiency in multitasking.
5. Demonstrated expertise in clinical laboratory techniques, attention to detail, and problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Technology with a background in Immunology and Histocompatibility.
2. Proficiency in laboratory information systems like EPIC and HistoTrac, and familiarity with CAP and other regulatory inspections.
3. Additional certifications such as CHT(ACHI) or CHS(ACHI) for candidates with extensive experience.
4. ASCP Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) Certification with experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Leads a unit or function, including overseeing and coordinating projects or work processes, and distributes the work of a minimum of two full time employees. 2. Performs laboratory tests and procedures in various areas. Records results and interprets and analyzes results of tests and procedures. 3. Tests for and ensures quality control of slides, specimens and cultures. Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment. 4. Monitors, measures, identifies, investigates, reports, and resolves quality concerns and/or opportunities. Participates in and contributes to the development of new policies and procedures. 5. Oversees and instructs support staff. Serves as a source of information on specialized laboratory techniques and equipment operation. 6. Prepares specimens, tissue, bodily fluid samples, and other matter for analysis and diagnosis using specialized laboratory techniques. 7. Stains and mounts slides, prepares specialized solutions and media; and cultures tissues. 8. Develops and modifies laboratory techniques and procedures. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May photograph specimens and other matter and develop film. 9. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Job Posting Date
