Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a Systems Engineering Manager 2 to be located in Roy, UT and support Advanced Programs.

This position may offer a competitive relocation package.

What You’ll Get To Do: 

The ideal candidate will provide objective-oriented direction utilizing management guidelines, general policies and maintain a strong level of engagement, while dynamically leading, inspiring, motivating and developing a team of professionals.

Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Act as deputy to the Product Definition IPT Lead, including representing the IPT in program forums as delegated, coordinating cross-IPT dependencies, and supporting overall IPT planning, execution, and risk/opportunity management.
  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplined systems engineering team supporting the Product Definition IPT through the Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase, including planning, tasking, performance management, and staff development.
  • Perform and oversee systems engineering activities including system architecture development, functional analysis, requirements development and allocation, interface definition, and requirements verification planning across the weapon system.
  • Apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE), modeling and simulation, and digital engineering tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS, JIRA, Confluence) to develop, analyze, and maintain system models, requirements baselines, and technical data products.
  • Plan, coordinate, and track cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality for assigned work packages, ensuring completion of projects on schedule and within budget consistent with program objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including program leadership, IPT/product owners, specialty engineering disciplines, and customer representatives, to define scope, resolve technical and operational issues, and support technical reviews.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation strategies, including test planning and requirements traceability, to ensure logical and systematic conversion of customer requirements into effective system solutions.
  • Identify, assess, and help mitigate technical risks and opportunities during TMRR, including conducting trade studies, timeline analyses, and design assessments to support sound technical decision making.
  • Provide clear, concise technical and programmatic briefings to leadership and customers, and represent the systems engineering organization in technical meetings, design reviews, and status reviews.
  • Foster a high-engagement, inclusive team environment through mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback, and support staffing, recruiting, and skill development within the functional homeroom.
  • Interpret and execute department procedures and operating guidelines, recommending improvements as appropriate, and ensure adherence to engineering processes, quality standards, and configuration management practices.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 8 years of related experience; 6 years of related experience with a master’s degree.

- Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years

- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

- 2+ years of experience with Agile team execution and use of digital engineering / systems engineering toolsets such as JIRA, Confluence, DOORS, and/or Cameo

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

- Advanced degree in engineering or a related STEM discipline

- 6+ years of experience in a multi-disciplined systems engineering environment supporting development efforts, preferably during Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) or similar early lifecycle phases

- 2+ years’ experience leading engineering teams in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity, including mentoring, coaching, and performance management

- Solid understanding of Systems Engineering and Integration & Test processes during TMRR, including requirements verification/validation planning, interface management, and use of MBSE/modeling and simulation to inform design trades

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
