Vice President: Front Office / Order Management System Technology Lead

Position Summary

The Vice President will be responsible for defining and delivering strategic technology solutions across front office investment management, portfolio management, trading, order management, and investment operations. The successful candidate will combine deep investment management domain expertise with strong technology leadership capabilities to deliver scalable platforms, data solutions, analytics, and workflow automation that improve investment decision-making, operational efficiency, and client outcomes.

This role requires a strategic technology leader who can partner with investment professionals, business stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams to modernize front office platforms and leverage emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Management Solutions and Front Office Technology

  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, traders, research teams, risk managers, quantitative teams, and investment operations stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into scalable technology solutions.
  • Define and drive technology roadmaps supporting front office investment workflows, including portfolio management, order management, trading, analytics, and decision support.
  • Design and deliver solutions supporting:
  • Portfolio construction and model management
  • Portfolio rebalancing and trade generation
  • Order and execution management workflows
  • Fixed income, equity, ETF, and derivatives trading
  • ETF creation/redemption and basket management
  • Security master, reference data, and investment data management
  • Performance, attribution, exposure, and risk analytics
  • Investment research and portfolio analytics platforms
  • Support the development of quantitative, rules-based, and optimization-driven investment workflows.
  • Partner with product, architecture, and engineering teams to ensure solutions are aligned with client needs, enterprise architecture standards, and long-term product strategy.

Technology Modernization and Delivery Leadership

  • Lead large-scale technology modernization initiatives across investment management platforms, data services, analytics, and workflow automation.
  • Provide architectural and solution leadership across multiple strategic initiatives.
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including Agile delivery, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, API-first design, and cloud-native architecture.
  • Partner with senior business and technology leaders to align delivery roadmaps with organizational objectives and client priorities.
  • Mentor engineers, analysts, and technical leads on investment workflows, scalable design patterns, and effective use of modern technology platforms.

Advanced Analytics and Emerging Technology

  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics, where they provide measurable business value.
  • Identify opportunities for workflow automation, decision support, data quality improvement, and productivity enhancement within investment management workflows.
  • Promote practical and responsible use of AI-enabled capabilities within front office and investment management solutions.
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to prioritize use cases based on business value, implementation complexity, and operational readiness.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, product development, enterprise technology, or investment management technology delivery.
  • Significant experience supporting front office investment management, portfolio management, trading, order management, or investment operations platforms.
  • Experience delivering technology solutions within asset management, investment management, wealth management, banking, or capital markets organizations.
  • Strong understanding of investment workflows, portfolio construction, trading, risk management, performance measurement, and investment data management.
  • Experience leading large-scale technology modernization initiatives and cross-functional teams across business, product, architecture, and engineering functions.
  • Ability to work directly with senior stakeholders, translate business requirements into technology solutions, and drive execution across complex delivery programs.

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with SQL and relational data platforms.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, or similar enterprise development languages.
  • Experience designing enterprise applications, APIs, microservices, integration services, and cloud-native solutions.
  • Experience with data integration, data management, analytics platforms, and distributed processing technologies.
  • Familiarity with AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms, containerization, and modern deployment practices.
  • Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs across scalability, performance, resiliency, maintainability, and operational supportability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within Asset Management, Investment Management, Wealth Management, or Capital Markets firms.
  • Deep understanding of portfolio management and trading workflows across equities, fixed income, ETFs, derivatives, and multi-asset portfolios.
  • Experience with Order Management Systems (OMS), Portfolio Management Systems (PMS), Risk Systems, Investment Book of Record (IBOR) platforms, or similar front office investment platforms.
  • Knowledge of portfolio analytics, optimization, attribution, exposure management, benchmark management, and risk concepts.
  • Experience developing or supporting portfolio analytics, trading, investment research, or decision-support platforms.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing AI-enabled productivity, automation, data quality, document intelligence, or analytics solutions.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, Generative AI, Large Language Models, or other emerging AI technologies is a plus, but not a primary requirement.

Leadership Capabilities

  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to explain complex technology and investment workflow concepts clearly.
  • Proven ability to influence across product, engineering, architecture, operations, and business leadership teams.
  • Client-focused mindset with the ability to balance strategic platform direction, delivery execution, and stakeholder priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust, mentor teams, and drive delivery through ambiguity.

Salary Range:

$110,000 - $188,750 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
