UC Consulting Engineer - Principal
In support of a challenging, critical, and rewarding program that provides integrated voice, video, and data services throughout the Information Technology lifecycle, Amentum is seeking a UC Consulting Engineer - Principal to join our dynamic team of IT professionals dedicated to fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. You must be a critical thinker, have a strong work ethic, and be able to work independently or as a member of a team in a dynamic environment. - 5 Days (Mon – Fri); 8 hrs/Day; 40 hrs/wkly
Essential Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UC Consulting Engineer - Principal include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as the subject-matter expert in Unified Communications (UC) and collaboration technologies, specializing in platforms such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection, and Cisco Webex.
- Bring deep expertise across collaboration design, edge services, endpoint and user management, configuration, troubleshooting, and system integration.
- Design, implement, and optimize UC solutions in collaboration with team members and cross-functional partners, including network engineers, security specialists, and system architects.
- Assess client needs and recommend architecture improvements to ensure seamless communication across domains.
- Design and optimize network infrastructure across security domains, addressing challenges in data flow, security policies, and interoperability.
- Partner with cross-domain network architects to align UC solutions with overall network architecture.
- Supervise UC Engineers across operations and maintenance (O&M), innovation initiatives, and special projects, providing guidance on complex UC issues.
- Advise UC Engineers, network engineers, and cybersecurity experts on voice and video communications solutions.
- Support day-to-day operations, troubleshoot issues, and maintain UC systems to deliver reliable, efficient communication services.
- Advise on projects involving UC, video conferencing, instant messaging, and presence technologies.
- Ensure communication tools are integrated seamlessly and meet security requirements.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI or TS with the ability to acquire SCI
- 12 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency with Cisco Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX) or Unified Contact Center Enterprise (UCCE), including call flow scripting, agent/queue configuration, and reporting
- Deep understanding of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), including system architecture, call routing, dial plans, and device management
- Strong understanding of core networking concepts, including LAN/WAN design, Quality of Service (QoS) for prioritizing real-time traffic, and MPLS for reliable wide-area connectivity
- Hands-on experience with Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls, with particular attention to how these devices are configured and tuned to support voice and video traffic
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting voice gateways, SIP trunks, and ISDN circuits to enable reliable external and internal call connectivity
- Expertise in call control protocols, including SIP, SCCP, and H.323, and how they govern call setup, signaling, and media negotiation across UC environments
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making and cross-team collaboration
- Must be able to work a 40-hour work week, normally Monday through Friday.
- Ability to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last-minute requests for overtime if needed.
- Ability to travel (5-10%) primarily within 75 miles.
- Familiarity with MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Project, and Visio.
- Exceptional attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong critical thinking, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Security Clearance Required:
Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI or TS with the ability to acquire SCI
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma
Minimum Years of Experience:
12 years of relevant experience
Required Certifications:
Must possess or be able to obtain a Cisco Certified Internet Expert (CCIE) Collaboration Certificate and a one of the following 8140 IAT Level II or III baseline certifications before start date:
- Level II certs include – CCNA Security, CySA+, CND, Security+ CE
- Level III certs include – CASP CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in IT related field (or better)
- Networking IT experience with on-premises environments
- Familiarity with ServiceNow
- ITIL 4 Foundation/Master

Compensation Details:
$260,000 - $290,000
