The Opportunity

This position is an onsite opportunity within the Abbott Diabetes Care Division in Alameda, California. We are helping people with diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. As the TPM Procurement Specialist, you will be part of a team of procurement professionals responsible for supporting product development, commercialization, and long-term supply strategies for Abbott Diabetes Care at the manufacturing level. This role partners closely with R&D, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Supplier Quality organizations to ensure the successful sourcing and launch of new products at our manufacturing sites while driving strategic sourcing decisions, risk mitigation, and value creation.

The Procurement Specialist will also be supporting the development and execution of sourcing strategies to accelerate product launches, improve business processes, and deliver sustainable cost improvements. You will also support supplier selection, supplier readiness, NPI procurement activities, and strategic sourcing initiatives to meet both current and future business needs.

This is an onsite opportunity in Alameda, CA.

What You'll Do

  • Sends out requests for quotes (RFQ) or request for proposals (RFP) to suppliers and follows up with suppliers as needed to ensure bids are submitted by deadlines.
  • Reviews supplier quotes for accuracy and creates supplier comparison reports that include various factors such as price, performance, project costs, tooling cost, and other metrics that are needed to make key supplier decisions.
  • Creates purchase requisitions and internal approval forms and ultimately places Purchase Orders (PO) and manages the PO maintenance until it is closed to include invoice payment.
  • Leads and executes assigned projects to assure all procurement activities are performed as required, including but not limited to ad hoc reporting, SOWs/RFI's/Ordering documents, etc., assisting with supplier selection, etc.
  • Helps with sourcing activities such as finding new suppliers and recommending new vendors.
  • Lead special projects as requested to reduce cost, increase efficiency, etc.
  • Support contract negotiations within established limitations and scope of authority to obtain the best total cost of ownership, including but not limited to pricing, lead times, quality, performance, safety stock, and liability.
  • Partner with R&D, Engineering, Product Development, and Operations teams to integrate procurement early in the product development lifecycle and accelerate commercialization efforts.
  • Support the development and execution of sourcing strategies that balance cost, quality, supply continuity, innovation, and risk.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks related to capacity, geopolitical factors, single-source dependencies, business continuity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage cross-functional project timelines and procurement deliverables to support successful product launches and business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Abbott policies, procurement procedures, quality requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Present sourcing strategies, supplier recommendations, business cases, and risk assessments to senior leadership.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to evaluate business cases, cost models, investment opportunities, and supply chain tradeoffs.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management capabilities.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of supplier management, should-cost analysis, and value engineering initiatives.
  • Knowledge of medical devices, healthcare, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of FDA, ISO, and other applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Certification in Supply Chain, Procurement, or Project Management disciplines (CPSM, CPM, CSCP, PMP, or equivalent).

Travel

  • Up to 25% travel, including domestic and international supplier visits, business reviews, and new product launch activities.

     

The base pay for this position is

$81,500.00 – $141,300.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
