Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) is seeking a Metrology Test & Evaluation Engineer (Experienced or Senior) to join the Boeing Test & Evaluation team, working in the Metrology and Test Equipment Services (MATES) group in El Segundo, CA or Huntington Beach, CA.

This opportunity will also involve working with local and enterprise MATES personnel to support Metrology operations in the Boeing Enterprise.

The successful candidate will join a geographically dispersed and multidisciplinary metrology engineering team that is responsible for developing and supporting measurement solutions in support of advanced manufacturing, product production, research and development and test & evaluation activities. This job is primarily to support the metrology engineering teams and the associated calibration labs within MATES. This role requires coordination with people in various time zones across the US and with all Boeing business units, including BCA, BDS, ET&T primarily. Traditional Engineering skills will be used to improve the development and deployment of engineering processing, software and tools, mathematical models, and the general aggregation and dissemination of enterprise-wide measurement solutions to support all of Boeing.

Metrology And Test Equipment Services (MATES) provides a full spectrum of test asset and metrology services and support for internal customers and products through all phases of the product lifecycle. Services include: calibration/certification of mechanical/physical, dimensional/optics, electrical and RF measurement equipment and test assets, sourcing management, measurement solutions, repair & maintenance, test asset selection and use, acquisition, allocation, resource and lifecycle management, and specialized test services.

MATES is comprised of engineers, technicians and administrative personnel who support programs, sites, business units and external/government customers by providing best value test asset management and metrology services through all phases of the product lifecycle.

Travel between the El Segundo and Huntington Beach sites will be required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops and documents standardized test methods and processes to ensure repeatability and productivity
  • Leads the development of test procedures
  • Applies lessons learned to the improvement of test procedures
  • Designs calibration system/test fixtures
  • Develops data processing tools and algorithms
  • Generates calibration procedures and software
  • Guides others in the design of test hardware, software and systems to achieve test requirements
  • Oversees debriefing of the test team
  • Leads the analysis, processing and formatting of data to customer requirements
  • Approves test data prior to delivery to customer
  • Formulates expectations for test data based on historical data
  • Performs functions as required to ensure calibration system readiness and data validity
  • Trains others
  • Works under minimal direction

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years of experience in metrology, and/or calibration/certification, and/or instrumentation
  • 5+ years of experience developing and executing test procedures
  • 5+ years of experience performing statistical analysis
  • 5+ years of experience in project management
  • 5+ years of direct experience with RF, high-frequency, microwave, dimensional, and optical equipment, including working with M&TE
  • 5+ years of experience with calibration and maintenance of Metrology lab M&TE
  • 5+ years of interacting with business partners in resolving problems, providing a high-level of customer service
  • 5+ years of experience in performance of calibration and troubleshooting, and repair of Measurement and Test Equipment including Automated Test Equipment (ATE) stations
  • Windows 10 and Microsoft Office knowledge

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 4: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with electrical, microwave, and/or RF calibrations
  • Familiarity with torque, pressure, force, mass, temperature, humidity, electrical/RF parameters.
  • Prior experience with use of an automated calibration recall system
  • Experience using/modifying calibration software (MetCal, SureCal, TME, etc.)
  • Experience increasing calibration lab capability to include parameters not previously supported

Summary pay range: $135,150-$182,850
