System Administrator Intern (12 Month Placement)

We are looking for a System Administrator Intern for a 12-month placement to help support and enhance the infrastructure that underpins our endpoint security products and engineering environments. Your contributions will directly impact our engineering teams and customers—our Interns don't just watch our engineers at work.
Responsibilities for the System Administrator Intern:
Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and PowerShell to improve system administration tasks
Support the configuration, maintenance and optimisation of Windows-based engineering infrastructure
Assist with the deployment, monitoring and maintenance of development, test and build environments
Contribute to infrastructure improvement projects, helping increase reliability, scalability and security
Investigate and resolve infrastructure issues, working closely with Software Engineers and DevOps teams
Help improve system monitoring, reporting and operational tooling
Support identity, access management and endpoint administration activities across engineering environments
Document infrastructure processes and contribute to operational best practices
Requirements for the System Administrator Intern:
2nd Year, Final Year or Masters level student completing a degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Engineering or another STEM discipline
Knowledge of Python and PowerShell scripting
Understanding of Windows operating systems and system administration fundamentals
Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and Active Directory)
Experience using Git or other version control systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
An interest in infrastructure automation, systems engineering and cyber security
An aspiring System Administrator looking for an internship with HP Wolf Security should have:
An interest in automating repetitive tasks and improving operational efficiency
Experience working on technical projects outside of academia (personal projects, home labs, open-source contributions or scripting projects)
An enthusiasm for Windows administration, infrastructure and cloud technologies
A desire to learn modern DevOps, automation and infrastructure management practices
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a world-class engineering team
Location & working model
This role is based in HP’s Cambridge office under a hybrid working arrangement, with a minimum requirement to be onsite three days per week. As a people‑focused senior role, regular in‑person collaboration is encouraged.
HP has invested in a new, modern site, including ergonomic workspaces and well stocked kitchen facilities that included a wide selection of coffee.
****This intern opportunity is best suited for postgraduates but students finishing their 2nd or 3rd year will also be considered****
Applicants should be enrolled in or graduating from a university program working towards a bachelor’s or master’s Degree across all science and engineering disciplines including, but not limited to:
Computer Science
Computer Engineering
Software Engineering
Data Science
