Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a Sr. Propulsion Engineer 4 (Project Engineer) to join our Minuteman III Propulsion Sustainment team. This position will be at our Propulsion Systems Division facility located at Hill AFB, UT.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position involves all aspects of sustaining the Minuteman III ICBM propulsion systems from depot level maintenance to static and flight. This Project Engineer position works within a team alongside Air Force to plan and execute several ordnance repair lines and aging surveillance testing at the system and component level. The position may also involve the support and analysis of component level tests, motor static tests, and missile flight tests; the evaluation and planning of methods of approach to integrate new products, technologies, or materials into existing systems; to investigate hardware / test anomalies, determine root cause, and provide recommended countermeasures to the Air Force customer. Will require work at Promontory and Bacchus.

Job Duties:

  • Serve as Engineering Lead for the NG MMIII ordnance repair line team
  • Act as a technical focal point for the customer ensuring customer satisfaction with ordnance repair efforts including participation in NG, customer and government review boards
  • Provide input to and participation in Air Force customer escalation briefings up to the AF Minuteman Chief Engineer
  • Work on problem solving and failure investigations of design and repair issues
  • Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations
  • Work closely with the Program Manager to manage technical execution of the ordnance repair programs
  • Manage cost and schedule for the technical effort on the ordnance repair programs
  • Work with Propulsion Systems functional management to assure proper technical support
  • Drive technical excellence into the repair line team (by upholding technical standards for project, managing technical risks, supporting cost goals, and ensuring requirements compliance)
  • Provide other support for the MMIII Propulsion sustainment effort as requested by the Chief Engineer

This requisition to be filled at a Senior Principal Level.

Sr. Principal Propulsion Engineer Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Science or related field required with 8 Years of applicable experience; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
  • 5+ yrs experience in solid rocket motor or ordnance component design, analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, or systems engineering
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical information at all organizational levels both internal and with Government customers
  • Ability to see how a complex system works (big picture) while working on individual component details and interactions to identify effects in data and determine cause within the hardware
  • Ability to travel:  Travel expectation of 5% – 10%
  • Ability to qualify for or already hold a DoD clearance

Sr. Principal Propulsion Engineer Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in ordnance device design, manufacture, and testing
  • Engineering leadership experience in solid rocket motor development, qualification, and production cycles
  • Demonstrated credibility with internal and external customers
  • Coordination of engineering efforts across multiple design, analysis, production, and test groups as well as teams consisting of multiple disciplines
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining focused results within reliability, quality, schedule, and budget requirements / constraints
  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems (Examples: experience with Decision Focus, Fault-tree, Kepner-Tregoe, Fishbone diagrams)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
