Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Systems Administrator – X-Lab Cloud Tech Admin (26-244) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

 

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

 

Position Overview:

 

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

 

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications Experimentation Laboratory (C2BMC X-Lab) operates in a highly fast-paced and dynamic setting. It is tasked with creating and integrating prototypes of future technologies for the Missile Defense System, such as Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Design, and other advanced missile defense technologies.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Will be responsible for deploying and maintaining a large virtualization solution spanning multiple remote sites
  • This environment comprises solutions such as virtualization hypervisor platforms, remote virtual desktop infrastructure, other user experience technologies, and various monitoring tools for virtual infrastructure
  • Maintain hypervisor software patch and version levels to stay current with vendor-recommended versions to support current production requirements
  • Troubleshoot all virtualization and cloud solutions, working with hardware engineers to ensure all physical servers are in a nominal state and firmware is up to date
  • Monitor the health of all virtualization/cloud services to ensure maximum uptime in the enterprise
  • Monitor and alert on virtualization capacity management for compute/storage load calculations, tracking virtual resource availability for enterprise expansion
  • Collaboration with other teams, such as IDAM engineering, to configure new services for user access to virtual assets using cloud-specific technologies
  • This could include examples such as creating a new security group for a particular user group, creating a Nutanix Prism Central project, associating specific VM assets with this project, and ensuring that only aspects of the project are accessible to the user base
  • Deployment and maintenance of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technologies that provide access to enterprise services for the user base, either local or remote
  • Examples of these solutions include products such as VMware Horizon View and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
  • Serve as the primary administrator responsible for deploying, maintaining, and decommissioning Kubernetes containerized architecture
  • Candidate must be a detail-oriented individual who can track the impact of events and actions on the underlying infrastructure being managed, such as patching and maintenance
  • This full-time position is based on-site at the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) at Schriever SFB, CO; it is not a remote role
  • Non-standard work hours are likely during event execution

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • Applicants must have a current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, CND, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their DoD 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period
  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
  • Thorough understanding and experience with the Nutanix Prism/AHV on-premises cloud platform
  • Experience with on-premises multi-tenant environment using role-based administrative controls (RBAC) for least privilege
  • Experience maximizing infrastructure uptime while maintaining a compliant and patched hypervisor platform
  • Some experience administering an Active Directory environment
  • Experience with virtualization technologies in an enterprise-level system, such as VMware, Red Hat OpenStack, or Nutanix
  • Capacity tracking for virtual resource usage to properly plan for future expansion in a multi-tenant environment
  • Experience with automation platforms, such as Nutanix Calm, VMware vRealize Automation, and others
  • Comfortable with using network and system health tracking solutions, such as SolarWinds, for monitoring system health for both virtual infrastructure and hardware

Primary Level Salary Range: $117,500.00 - $176,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
