Sr. Manager, Payments Governance Advisory (Hybrid)
The Enterprise Payments Governance and Oversight team is seeking a dynamic Senior Manager leader who will play a pivotal role defining and implementing the future of payments governance and risk management to provide stronger oversight across the enterprise. The Enterprise Payments Governance and Oversight team sits within the Enterprise Payments organization in the Retail Bank. The team is responsible for the governance and oversight of end-to-end core payments functions for all payment types across the enterprise, including monitoring. In this role, you will be at the forefront of payments, working across Lines of Businesses to consult and provide solutions on how they can remediate some of the biggest payments-related challenges while enabling business objectives.
In this exciting role, you will work closely with key stakeholders across the company to ensure we have a dynamic and well-managed payments ecosystem. This role critically works with colleagues in 2nd line Compliance, First line Risk Offices and lines of businesses to define the risk levels, procedures and structure matches best in practice governance frameworks. The Role:
As the Senior Manager of Enterprise Payments Governance Advisory, you will spearhead a critical team transformation, evolving the function from a reactive risk advisory service into a proactive, forward-thinking strategic partnership model. You will lead a high-performing team of advisors, empowering them to move beyond traditional oversight to provide anticipatory, value-added solutions that enable well-managed business growth. By leveraging deep expertise in global payment rails and a visionary understanding of emerging regulatory requirements, you will ensure our governance framework not only protects the enterprise but also serves as a catalyst for innovation in a rapidly changing payments ecosystem.
General Responsibilities:
Lead a team of governance advisors to support Enterprise wide payment risk management across business objectives.
Partner with stakeholders across Line of Businesses, Operations, Product, Technology and Risk Offices to advise on integrating payment risk management across new products, use cases, and critical initiatives.
Provide expertise and thought leadership in how payments are evolving external - including providing competitive, new technology, regulatory and industry perspectives.
Identify payment risk related trends and drive insights on the health of the payment type and identify opportunities for risk mitigation
Ideal Candidate:

Subject matter expert with deep knowledge of evolving payments industry trends, technologies, and global regulatory landscapes
Strategic influencer with the ability to navigate complex organizational structures and build consensus at the highest levels of leadership
Proactive risk manager who anticipates challenges and provides strategic, consultative solutions to internal LOB partners
Ability to manage a team - balancing the delivery of existing routines with opportunities to drive strategic long term value through internal consulting.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
Location: West Creek 5 (Richmond, VA) or Center 2 (McLean, VA) - this role is Hybrid, where you will be expected to spend 3 days per week working in office and the remainder of the week working virtually.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience
At least 3 years of experience in risk management, audit, or governance
At least 4 years experience working in the financial industry
At least 5 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal and external stakeholders
At least 3 years of people leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree
At least 5 years of experience in risk management
At least 5 years of project management experience leading cross functional projects and programs
At least 6 years of experience managing senior stakeholders
At least 3 years of experience working in payments
At least 5 years of people leadership experience
At least 3 years of process management experience
Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $177,700 - $202,800 for Sr. Risk Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
