Software Engineer, Starlink Enterprise Products (Space Lasers)

SOFTWARE ENGINEER, STARLINK ENTERPRISE PRODUCTS (SPACE LASERS)
Starlink is SpaceX's unprecedented satellite constellation designed to deliver high-speed broadband internet to remote areas around the world. By deploying thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), we've created a global network that bridges the digital divide, enabling reliable connectivity for homes, businesses, vessels, aircraft, and more.
As a member of the Enterprise Products Software team, you'll own software for bring-up and operation of new Starlink products including:
- Plaser, our space laser product which connects third-party vehicles to the Starlink constellation
- Community Gateway, our terrestrial very high throughput parabolic antenna
- Starlink Aviation, enabling tens of millions of passengers to experience Starlink worldwid and more to-be-launched products that leverage Starlink in new industries
You'll drive features at different layers of the stack, including embedded applications, backend systems, and user interfaces. Prior aerospace experience is not a requirement to be successful here - we're looking for ambitious engineers who thrive when they're diving deep on challenging, interdisciplinary problems.
Our software engineers are responsible for the complete lifecycle of the software they create, including development, testing, and support. We expect our engineers to close the feedback loop between software design and real-world performance. In this role, your software will have a meaningful and measurable impact on the world.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant devices that operate for long periods of time with minimal maintenance for millions of users
- Participate in and lead architecture, design, and code reviews
- Identify areas to improve the experience, reliability, and efficiency of the product
- Develop prototypes and manage experiments to prove out key design concepts
- Write quality linux based software for common processors and microcontrollers
- Develop hardware-in-the-loop testbeds and testcases
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or other STEM discipline
- 1+ year of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience is acceptable)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Deep understanding of the technologies you've worked in; being able to answer 5-whys-deep
- Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to question requirements and push technical boundaries
- Experience with embedded systems
- Experience launching and operating consumer or enterprise products
- Creative approach to problem solving, exceptional analytical skills and engineering fundamentals
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of networking and linux networking stack
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Level 1: $125,000.00 - $165,000.00
Level 2: $145,000.00 - $200,000.00
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Employees in Washington State accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
