Job Description

Job Summary

As part of the Cox Automotive family, Central Dispatch is evolving the nation’s largest self-managed auto transportation platform. Our logistics solutions connect shippers with a nationwide network of carriers, enabling vehicles to move efficiently across the country.

The Software Engineer II applies secure software engineering principles to the design, development, testing, maintenance, and evaluation of software and cloud infrastructure. This role collaborates closely with teammates to understand business requirements, contribute to architectural discussions, and deliver scalable, resilient, and secure systems. It also incorporates the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to streamline coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities across the SDLC. The position emphasizes strong software craftsmanship, continuous improvement, and effective collaboration within the Central Dispatch engineering ecosystem.

Our Teams

Cox Automotive’s Central Dispatch teams are based primarily in Atlanta, GA. We have cultivated a group of versatile, hardworking, and creative team members with diverse skill sets who can adapt to the rapid changes in the automotive and technology industries. We are committed to supporting our logistics businesses and building for the future with a best-in-class platform.

Primary Duties and Key Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Design, build, test, and maintain features across .NET/C# services and React + TypeScript web apps on the Central Dispatch platform, including appropriate use of AI-assisted development tools during daily engineering work.

  • Participate in design and architecture discussions, using both personal analysis and AI-supported exploration to clarify technical options and desired outcomes.

  • Help break functional and business requirements into clear, estimable engineering tasks, using AI tools where appropriate to sharpen estimates and insight.

  • Write high-quality code with unit, integration, and system tests for business-critical components, using AI assistance to increase test coverage and reduce repetitive work while validating all AI-generated output.

  • Build and consume RESTful and event-driven services (AWS SQS, background jobs) that keep dispatch, listings, and fulfillment data in sync.

  • Apply secure coding practices, and use AI-enabled scanning and analysis tools to help identify and remediate vulnerabilities.

  • Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis, combining traditional debugging with AI-guided investigation to speed discovery and remediation, using observability tooling such as New Relic and Splunk.

  • Modernize legacy components through refactoring and migration, using AI tools to analyze existing patterns and propose alternatives.

  • Help maintain cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines (AWS, Terraform or CDK, Docker).

  • Contribute insights, patterns, and lessons learned from prompt experimentation and AI-assisted workflows to help refine team practices.

  • Document processes, coding patterns, and best practices, using AI tools to improve clarity and consistency.

  • Communicate status, risks, and technical considerations clearly to teammates, managers, and product stakeholders.

Required Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 2 years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination such as a master’s degree and 1 year of experience, a PhD, or 6 years of experience with no degree.

  • Hands-on experience building web applications with C#/.NET and a modern JavaScript framework such as React with TypeScript.

  • Experience with cloud services (AWS preferred), containerization (Docker), and relational databases (PostgreSQL).

  • Skilled in analytical thinking, requirements analysis, technical troubleshooting, and system or technology integration.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to peers and partners.

  • Comfortable applying AI-assisted development tools responsibly across the SDLC, from design and coding through testing, troubleshooting, and documentation, while validating all AI-generated output.

  • Availability for rotational on-call duties outside of standard business hours may be required.

  • Atlanta based candidates only, willing to be onsite multiple times a week

Nice to Have

  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform or AWS CDK) and CI/CD pipeline experience.

  • Application observability with New Relic or Splunk, and search with Elasticsearch.

  • React Native or mobile development experience.

  • Logistics or transportation domain experience.
