Software Engineer

The Opportunity:

As a back-end developer, you know that a good site or system needs the right combination of clean code, APIs, analytics, and infrastructure to develop a user-focused solution. We’re looking for a back-end developer with the software engineering skills it takes to help identify potential risks, contribute to solution development, and create efficient and effective systems for our clients.

As a back-end developer at Booz Allen, you’ll use the latest architectural approaches and open-source frameworks and tools to help deliver solutions. Using your software engineering knowledge, you’ll work with and learn from the development team to create custom tools, systems, and sites with consistent performance and scalability.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test, debug, and document an assigned software components in a combined edge and cloud application.
  • Develop C++20 systems software, Go cloud services, installers, persistence, OTA processing, or integration tests according to the assigned focus.
  • Write unit, contract, integration, boundary, restart, and negative tests.
  • Diagnose behavior across cloud, Linux, Windows, database, and network boundaries.
  • Use VS Code through Remote SSH into standardized Windows and Linux build VMs.
  • Participate in small code reviews and explain all code produced with AI assistance.
  • Maintain bounded inputs, stable errors, structured logs, and careful handling of credentials, signing material, and other sensitive data.
  • Update protobuf contracts, migrations, build configuration, runbooks, and test evidence together with implementation changes

You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience with programming languages, including Go, C++, or Python
  • Experience with OpenSSL, TLS/mTLS, public-key enrollment, certificates, or secure protocol design
  • Experience with system service managers such as Windows SCM or Linux systems, cross-platform installers, cross-compilation, Job Objects and overlapped I/O, or development for non-host processor architectures
  • Experience with SQLite or SQLiteModernCpp, encrypted local databases, or cloud-hosted SQL databases
  • Experience with Secure software update systems, signed manifests, package verification, defensive archive extraction, or rollback or recovery design
  • Experience with Distributed job state, device or fleet management, IoT or edge systems, telemetry, or disconnected or intermittent networking
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of experience in software engineering in lieu of a degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with gRPC tooling such as grpcurl, protobuf compatibility checking, or generated clients

Clearance:

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $69,400.00 to $158,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
