Sight and Sound Technician

Amentum is seeking a Sight and Sound Technician to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Sight and Sound Technician is responsible for the maintenance, setup, and operation of sound and lighting equipment for live performances in clubs and other designated locations. This role combines technical expertise with creative flair to provide high-quality stage lighting, sound effects, and audiovisual support for events.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate sound equipment for live performances and ensure high-quality sound production that meets client and event needs.
- Set up and operate lighting systems to enhance both indoor and outdoor performances, events, and stages.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on sound and lighting equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Assemble, troubleshoot, and calibrate sound systems, lighting rigs, electrical components, and wiring as required.
- Utilize creative vision to design and arrange stage lighting for performances and events.
- Install, arrange, and operate lighting and wiring equipment to create unique visual effects for indoor and outdoor scenes or performances.
- Configure and align lighting systems to match event themes, production requirements, or special effects needs.
- Set up and arrange electrical equipment and lighting to meet performance or event specifications.
- Collaborate with event coordinators to successfully execute performances by aligning sound and lighting effects to enhance the overall experience.
- Provide expertise in stage lighting, sight effects, and sound balancing to ensure an immersive and professional presentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines while handling, installing, and maintaining electrical equipment and lighting systems.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in operating, repairing, maintaining, and assembling sound and lighting equipment for live performances.
- Demonstrated creativity in lighting design and the ability to create visually dynamic effects for indoor and outdoor scenes.
- Knowledge of proper techniques for installing, arranging, and operating stage lighting, sound equipment, and electrical wiring.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to resolve issues with lighting and sound systems.
- Familiarity with live performance environments and the technical requirements for stage management.
- Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all required training and certifications, including Customer Service, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and local emergency procedures training, with annual recertification as required.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Formal training or certification in audio engineering, stage lighting design, or sound system operation.
- Familiarity with Navy or Department of Defense audiovisual and event management standards.
- Advanced knowledge of digital soundboards, lighting consoles, and audiovisual software.
- Valid country driver’s license.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
