Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal / Sr Principal System Engineer (T03/T04 levels). This position is located in Roy, Utah and supports the Sentinel program.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will join a team modeling high level Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Cost (RAM-C) processes across multiple campuses. This role will focus Operating and Support (O&S) modeling to support affordable system design over its lifespan. O&S Model uses DoD Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE) framework combining a variety of data sources. This role will support Requirement vs Cost (RvC) and Cost as an Independent Variable (CAIV) analysis for design reviews and major program events.

This position may also include other product support related modeling efforts to include Availability, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Life Cycle Cost (LCC).

An ideal candidate will have experience with:

  • Modeling large systems and experience finding useful data and trends in large data sets

  • A candidate with maintenance or logistical background will be able to more easily communicate with stakeholders

  • Position will be working to mature a model and must be comfortable with pathfinding or blank page development activities

  • Experience with cost estimating models similar to ACEIT or SEER is preferred

Basic Qualifications

This requisition may be filled at either the Principal Engineer (T-03 level) or Sr Principal Engineer (T-04 level).

Required for Both Levels:

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

  • Proficiency with Cost estimating tools (ACEIT, SEER, ReliaSoft, or similar) - 3 years of experience

  • Proficiency with Cost As an Independent Variable (CAIV) or Requirement vs Cost (RvC) modeling - 1 year of experience

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in the areas of cost specific modeling or modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) - 3 years of experience

  • Experience utilizing base year dollars and understanding of inflation / Net Present Value (NPV) - 1 year

  • Knowledge of Agile development practices

Principal Systems Engineer (T-03 level):

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with a minimum 5 years of related experience; 3 years with a Master’s; or 1 years with a PhD

Sr. Principal Systems Engineer (T-04 level):

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with a minimum 8 years of related experience; 6 years with a Master’s; or 4 years with a PhD

Preferred Qualification

  • Active Top Secret Clearance

  • Proficiency with data handling scripting (SQL, Azure, PowerBI or similar) - 1 year of experience

  • Proficiency with engineering scripting (Python, C++/C#, Matlab, VBA or similar) - 1 year of experience

  • Experience with cost estimating ACAT 1 programs

  • Expertise with Systems Engineering (SE) (Systems engineering V, systems integration, VV&A, or similar)

  • Experience defining confidence bounds and quantifying sources of error in models

  • Experience with Agile Release Train (ART) or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira / Confluence)

  • Advanced use of standard Microsoft Office products to include development tools

  • Strong interest to interact with a wide variety of skills across multiple engineering domains. These engineering domains include: Systems Safety, Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Integrated Logistics Support, Product Support, Digital Integration, and Sustainment Cost Modeling

  • Experience with pathfinding / blank page development efforts

  • INCOSE certifications

  • Knowledge of DoD CAPE guide, Title 10 U.S.C. Chapter 323, or DoDI 5000.73

  • Capable of working with minimal direction, independently determines and develops technical objectives of assignments, and presents work upon completion for high level review

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
