The Opportunity
The Senior Staff Digital Design & Product Owner works on site daily out of our San Diego, CA location in the Infectious Diseases Group in Abbott Diagnostics.

What You’ll Work On
We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Digital Design & Product Owner to lead the strategy, design, and delivery of connected healthcare solutions that integrate diagnostic technologies with clinical workflows and healthcare information systems. This role is ideal for a product leader with deep experience developing digital health products, driving user-centered design, and delivering connectivity solutions across healthcare ecosystems.
The successful candidate will own product design, while partnering with engineering, clinical, and commercial stakeholders to build solutions that integrate with EMR/EHR systems, laboratory information systems (LIS), and healthcare data platforms. A strong understanding of healthcare interoperability standards, clinical workflows, and customer experience design is essential.
In addition:
Own the product strategy, roadmap, backlog, and execution of digital healthcare and connectivity solutions. Conducts discovery with physicians, laboratories, large health systems, and smaller physician office laboratories; assesses value propositions, willingness to pay, price sensitivity, packaging, and customer trust in compliant PHI/PII data-use models.
Lead the design and development of user-centered digital experiences, including portals, dashboards, workflows, and healthcare applications.
Translate customer and business needs into product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release plans.
Responsible for independently performing and managing product ownership and digital design tasks related to the execution of new and existing Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 connectivity products, webpages, dashboards, workflows, prototypes, and tools.
Drive integration initiatives involving EMR/EHR systems, LIS platforms, diagnostic instruments, middleware, and healthcare data solutions.
Define and prioritize connectivity capabilities utilizing HL7, FHIR, APIs, and other interoperability standards.
Partner with engineering teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-quality digital products.
Conduct customer discovery and workflow analysis with health systems, laboratories, clinicians, and healthcare stakeholders to inform product strategy.
Ensure solutions meet regulatory, privacy, cybersecurity, and quality requirements.
Champion best practices in product management, digital design, usability, and healthcare connectivity.
Proven experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Digital Product Leader responsible for healthcare software, digital health, diagnostics, or medical device products.
Strong experience defining product strategy, roadmaps, requirements, user stories, and product delivery plans.
Expertise in user-centered design, workflow design, UX/UI, customer discovery, and usability testing.
Experience developing digital products such as dashboards, clinician-facing applications, portals, and workflow solutions.
Strong knowledge of HL7, FHIR, APIs, interoperability frameworks, and healthcare data exchange.
Experience integrating products and platforms across healthcare environments.
Hands-on experience working with EMR/EHR platforms and clinical information systems.
Experience within digital health, diagnostics, medical devices, healthcare software, or regulated healthcare environments.
Ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams without direct authority.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree Engineering, Product Management, Human-Computer Interaction, UX/Product Design, Healthcare Informatics, Computer Science, or closely related STEM field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience including product management/ownership, hands-on digital product design, and technical leadership for complex healthcare, connectivity, or enterprise products.
Demonstrated broad product expertise and technical leadership for multiple subsystems. Demonstrated experience communicating (verbally and in writing) technical details to a wide audience of cross-divisional teams and leadership, and influencing decision-making across external organizations.
Hands-on experience designing responsive webpages, dashboards, portals, workflows, information architectures, and data visualizations; advanced proficiency with Figma or equivalent wireframing and prototyping tools and demonstrated use of usability testing, accessibility, and design-system practices.
Experience serving as product manager or product owner, translating customer and business needs into roadmaps, prioritized backlogs, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, release plans, and delivery against commitment dates.
Experience with diagnostic and laboratory workflows, EMR/EHR and LIS products, middleware, APIs, and healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, and ASTM across large health systems and physician office laboratories.
Experience defining governed data foundations for analytics and future AI-enabled products, including data models, metadata, quality, lineage, provenance, and permitted-use requirements.
Experience with customer discovery, product analytics, value propositions, willingness-to-pay and price-sensitivity research, packaging, and product and experience success measures.

The base pay for this position is
$130,700.00 – $261,300.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
