The Opportunity
Our location in Sunnyvale, California currently has an opportunity for a Senior Scientist.
The Senior Scientist will initiate and lead small to medium-scale projects, conducting pre-clinical and other technical research activities, including design verification, with minimal supervision. This role may provide technical guidance, review, and feedback to colleagues and cross-functional team members. The Senior Scientist is expected to analyze and interpret scientific data, communicate findings, and present technical observations and recommendations to management within Abbott.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design and execute experiments with guidance, achieving established milestones while summarizing data, interpreting results, and drawing conclusions.
- Analyze and evaluate data using advanced analytical methodologies to support project objectives.
- Apply advanced scientific knowledge to research and development projects and technical problem-solving.
- Review patents and scientific literature to recommend future experimental approaches and provide technical justification for recommendations.
- Demonstrate expertise in specialized techniques and identify technical solutions and alternatives for complex scientific challenges.
- Utilize a variety of analytical instruments and methodologies to generate high-quality data and insights.
- Anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues while providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior scientists.
- Collaborate as a cross-functional team member by participating in project planning, delivering updates, and identifying process improvement opportunities.
- Plan and manage complex projects, including developing timelines, coordinating resources, and driving progress toward key milestones.
- Demonstrate emerging leadership by supporting the development and accountability of junior team members.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives, including invention disclosures, patent applications, and scientific publications.
- Maintain compliance with laboratory safety requirements and best practices.
- Accurately document experimental procedures, protocols, technical reports, and cost estimates.
- Support the implementation and continuous effectiveness of the Quality System in accordance with applicable regulations and company requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, or mathematics with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Doctorate Degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
- With 7 + years of experience in positions within a research development environment or PhD with 2 years of experience.
- Execution of practical lab skills with increasing complexity of knowledge with experience.
- Demonstrates knowledge of science and the ability to apply more complex and advanced principles and techniques with experience.
- Expert level (able to explain and teach) experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data.
- Knowledge/use of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.
- Computer skills - able to learn new computer programs

The base pay for this position is
$100,000.00 – $200,000.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
