JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main Purpose of the Role

The Senior Software Requirements Engineer is responsible for understanding subsystem features and applying an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, elicit, create, and maintain highquality software requirements.

This role works closely with systems engineering, software development, verification, and clinical stakeholders to evaluate system requirements and ensure that in addition to needed functions, software requirements appropriately account for code development, verification activities, and clinical aspects of software functionality.

The Senior Software Requirements Engineer supports product development by performing core requirements engineering activities—including investigating, defining, analyzing, and documenting requirements—for assigned projects and features. This position requires analytical thinking, technical judgment, and the application of engineering and scientific principles to solve complex technical problems.

The role involves independently resolving assigned tasks within projects by applying both technical and clinical understanding, exercising sound judgment in planning and executing work, and using effective, efficient, and bestpractice approaches to requirements management.

Main Responsibilities

  • Create, define, and maintain formal subsystemlevel software requirements.

  • Analyze system requirements, user needs, and system designs; collaborate with crossfunctional stakeholders to gather, refine, and validate requirements.

  • Take ownership of assigned features or updates, including planning work, coordinating with team members, communicating progress, and aligning activities with project leads.

  • Lead and contribute to technical discussions and design reviews related to assigned features.

  • Support investigation of proposed new features by assessing technical risk, implementation complexity, and development effort.

  • Develop deep subjectmatter expertise in assigned areas, enabling effective support of development and verification teams and participation in systems engineering discussions related to new features and defect investigations.

Key Skills for Success in This Role

  • Requirements Management Experience:
3+ years of experience managing system, software, firmware, or related requirements, including the use of tools such as IBM DOORS or equivalent.

  • Requirements Elicitation and Analysis:
Strong ability to elicit, analyze, and document requirements by engaging with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams.

  • Clear Communication:
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
Proven ability to work closely with team members, gather input, understand concerns, and incorporate feedback into well-structured requirements.

  • Self-Direction and Ownership:
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and drive assigned investigations and deliverables to completion.

  • Appropriate Level of Detail:
Skill in tailoring the level of detail in requirements and documentation to suit the audience, purpose, and development phase.

  • Learning and Knowledge Sharing:
Ability to quickly learn new features, technologies, and domains through research, documentation review, and expert engagement, and effectively share this knowledge with the team.

  • Conceptual Understanding:
Strong aptitude for understanding new technical concepts and explaining them accurately and concisely to others.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with DOORS

  • Experience working with medical devices specifically related to Jude Medical/Abbott Pacemakers, ICDs and ICMs
