A Day in the Life
The Senior R&D Engineer will support the Atherectomy portfolio within Medtronic’s R&D Released Product Management (RPM) team in the Peripheral Vascular Health (PVH) Operating Unit through execution of product and process development activities, technical documentation, validation efforts, and cross-functional collaboration. This role will provide technical expertise, work on hands-on problem-solving, and take ownership of complex projects. This role will help drive impactful technical initiatives, collaborate across teams, and contribute to solutions that directly improve patient outcomes.This role is responsible for supporting test method development and validation activities, regulatory submission support, equipment qualification and revalidation efforts, and site operational initiatives. This role requires strong collaboration across functions and hands-on technical engagement to develop a deep understanding of stent therapies, product functionality, and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
Product & Technical Leadership
- Lead and execute technical strategies and deliverables for the Atherectomy portfolio within the R&D RPM group, providing technical direction and subject matter expertise
- Develop and lead comprehensive test strategies, including test method development, test planning, cross-functional coordination, execution, and completion of testing activities
- Perform hands-on laboratory and product evaluation work while applying engineering expertise to characterize product performance, functionality, and associated therapies
- Develop and apply a deep technical understanding of product functionality through test methods (TMs), technical documentation, data analysis, and product evaluations
- Lead and execute Test Method Validations (TMVs) in accordance with applicable procedures, quality systems, and regulatory requirements
- Provide technical leadership and support for Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities, including development and review of associated documentation
- Lead the preparation, review, routing, and approval of technical reports, ensuring technical rigor and compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and documentation standards
- Partner with Regulatory Affairs to inform submission strategies, provide technical expertise, and support regulatory documentation and responses
- Serve as a technical resource for cross-functional teams, proactively identifying risks, resolving complex technical issues, and driving projects to successful completion
Site & Equipment Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership for equipment replacement, qualification, and revalidation activities across the site
- Develop risk-based qualification strategies incorporating lessons learned, engineering best practices, and insights from recent equipment validation projects
- Lead collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and cross-functional stakeholders on equipment-related projects and technical initiatives
- Provide engineering support and technical oversight for site DOTM (Design/Development Transfer or applicable operational) activities
- Drive cross-functional execution to ensure project timelines, compliance requirements, and operational objectives are achieved
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment qualification processes, technical standards, and site capabilities
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to less-experienced engineers, supporting the development of engineering capabilities and consistent application of best practices
Other:
- Design, develop, analyze, troubleshoot and provide technical skills during research and/or product development
- Design studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise
- May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials
- Translate research discoveries into usable and marketable products
Requirements: Requires a Baccalaureate degree AND minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
