Collins Aerospace is a leader in technologically advanced, intelligent solutions that help redefine the aerospace and defense industry. With a comprehensive portfolio and deep technical expertise, we help customers meet the demands of the global market. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.

This candidate will drive technical leadership while supporting program design, development, and testing of Propulsion components and subsystems. The position will be responsible for day-to-day technical coordination and execution leadership for projects and work packages within the scope of a Project Chief Engineer.  The Project Engineer, nominally, would operate under the technical direction of a Program Chief Engineer, but for Production support, the Project Engineer works with the Program Management organization and coordinates with the engineering teams for resolution support.

What You Will Do

  • You will support the technical design authority of the Project Chief Engineer by coordinating crossdiscipline engineering activities at the project level. Ensure that mechanical, electrical, software, systems, and other discipline teams are integrated and working to a consistent set of requirements, interfaces, and design baselines.

  • You will help design, communicate, and implement detailed project plans, including task breakdowns, schedules, and cost estimates for the engineering scope. Lead the day-to-day execution of project controls, tracking progress against plan and providing timely status on technical, cost, and schedule performance.

  • You will prepare and coordinate project-level technical inputs to proposals, work statements, specifications, and estimates. Ensure that project scope, assumptions, and constraints are clearly defined and aligned with higher-level program and product objectives.

  • You will translate design concepts and criteria into executable engineering tasks. Coordinate integration and test activities, ensuring that configurations, procedures, and results support verification, validation, and, where applicable, certification/qualification objectives.

  • You will monitor day-to-day progress, identify emerging technical and operational issues, and drive or coordinate their resolution to minimize impact on schedule and cost. Work with functional managers and Project Chief Engineers to secure the resources, information, and decisions needed to keep the project on track.

  • You will provide clear, concise technical and project status to Project Chief Engineers, Program Management, and other stakeholders. Ensure that risks, issues, and dependencies are visible and that actions are tracked to closure.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Experience leading product development projects through SRRs PDRs, CDRs, TRRs, and PRRs type reviews.

  • Strong analytical skills including strong knowledge of physics, dynamics, and statics.

  • Direct experience with manufacturing/Production support processes

  • Experience presenting design solutions to internal and external customers

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • A minimum of 5 years of aerospace engineering experience, preferably with production support

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Aerospace or Mechanical preferred

  • 3D CAD experience with high end CAD software (e.q. NX, Catia,)

  • Previous experience using Unigraphics/NX CAD experience including TeamCenter and TeamCenter Multi Site PLM experience

  • Previous experience in the aerospace and defense industry preferred

  • Previous experience with aircraft cockpit, crew station, escape system, ejection seat, or crew systems design

  • Previous experience with machining, sheet metal, composites, and fabric design

  • Previous experience with energetic cartridge actuated devices, propellant actuated devices or Linear charges.

  • Previous experience of aerospace/military specifications

  • Previous experience with FEA or Strength hand calculations
