The Sr Principal Tax Accountant - State Audits reports to the Senior Manager - State Audits and Planning. The position will be located in the corporate office in Falls Church, Virginia with the potential for remote work. The Sr Principal Tax Accountant - State Audits is responsible for managing state income tax audits and serves as the primary point of contact with state taxing authority auditors. He/she responds to audit requests, researches and defends tax positions, reviews audit adjustments, facilitates payments/collections, and tracks and informs the tax compliance team of audit findings that impact subsequent years.
The Sr Principal Tax Accountant - State Audits participates in financial statement preparation, particularly with respect to uncertain tax positions, and drafts memos to document various tax positions. When federal tax changes arise from IRS settlements or amended federal returns, the Sr Principal Tax Accountant - State Audits oversees preparation and filing of amended state tax returns, and resolves related notices. He/she also assists with modeling state tax planning scenarios and state income tax return reviews.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelors in Accounting or similar field, in addition to a CPA, and a minimum of 8 years of experience in federal/multi-state income tax for large corporations (or a Masters in Taxation, CPA and 5 years of experience in federal/multi-state income tax for large corporations)
- Knowledge of current and pending state income tax laws and regulations is required
- State income tax research ability and experience is required.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in the Aerospace/Defense industry is beneficial.
- Experience with income tax accounting and preparation of tax provision for public company financial statements is preferred.
- Familiarity with CorpTax software.
