Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.

Our Asheville, NC site is focused on the production of turbine airfoils for commercial and military engines.Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide design engineering support for the Asheville, North Carolina casting and machining product line.
  • This position will fill a critical role in a cross discipline Integrated Product Team (IPT) responsible for executing key deliverables including producibility improvements, non-conformance dispositions, response to field events and investigations, identification of product improvement changes and execution of class I ECs.
  • You will support both existing products in the value stream and any new product design technologies introduced at the Asheville manufacturing site.
  • This position will require integration between the module-owning Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs), the part responsible Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO), Asheville Operations, and Quality.
  • You will be responsible for the execution of mechanical design engineering standard work and communicating formally and informally with CIPT and program customers.
  • This position will also be responsible for supporting the deployment of Model Based Definition, Manufacture and Inspection (MB-DMI) at Asheville.

What You Will Learn:

  • The selected candidate will learn about our advanced airfoil manufacturing site capabilities as well as learning about Airfoil IPT decisions leading to production configurations that balance maximizing the product time on wing benefits along with high yield, high rate production capability. Candidate will also gain turbine airfoil design and design integration competencies and an in depth knowledge of Hot Section Engineering Standard Work.

Qualifications You Must Have :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years relevant experience or an advanced degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
  • US Citizenship is required.


Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.
  • Turbine airfoil engineering experience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative.
  • Proficiency with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994 and 2018.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products, Teamcenter, Siemens NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Experience in engineering activities related to products in service.
  • Experience with fault tree investigations.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
