What you'll be doing

As a member of the CIBC US Internal Audit Team, the Senior Auditor supports the execution of risk-based audits across the Compliance, Legal and AML portfolio. The Senior Auditor is responsible for assisting with audit planning, executing fieldwork, and supporting audit reporting, as well as contributing to continuous monitoring and issue validation activities.

The role includes assessing key risks, understanding business processes, evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of controls, and identifying opportunities to strengthen the control environment. The Senior Auditor works with business units and control partners to document audit observations, communicate control weaknesses and emerging risks, and support practical, sustainable remediation strategies.

As a key contributor within the audit team, the Senior Auditor applies sound audit judgment, risk awareness, and knowledge of regulatory expectations to complete assigned work in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and professional standards. The role provides development opportunities to broaden experience across other audit areas.

How you'll succeed

  • Audit execution – Assess key business risks and evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of related processes and controls across the Compliance, Legal and AML functions; identify and communicate internal control weaknesses, regulatory compliance gaps, and process inefficiencies to business and functional management. Advise management and business partners on best practices and promote compliance with CIBC policies and procedures, regulatory expectations, and applicable legal, regulatory, and AML requirements. Support audits across key compliance and regulatory risk areas, including the assessment of related governance, processes, and controls.

  • Teamwork facilitation – Work collaboratively with audit management and other team members to execute risk-based audits, communicate audit results, and perform continuous monitoring of management’s control environment. Partner effectively with stakeholders across second-line and business functions, including Compliance, Legal, AML, and business management. Participate in internal projects to improve and simplify audit processes.

  • Project management - Effectively manage multiple audit assignments at different stages of the audit cycle and complete required tasks on a timely basis. Communicate regularly with the team and manager to provide updates on progress, emerging issues, and potential audit concerns. Contribute to the preparation of clear, concise, and well-supported audit observations and reporting.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in planning and executing audits. You have a strong knowledge of auditing practices, internal controls, regulatory requirements, and risk management principles within a large financial institution. You bring experience or knowledge in regulatory compliance areas such as consumer protection and conduct, AML and sanctions compliance, privacy requirements, fair lending, complaints management, and regulatory change. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related field or equivalent business experience is required.  A professional designation such as Certified Anti- Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) MBA is a plus.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $90,000 USD - $120,000 USD for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position (salary differential for other locations will be discussed at the time of the interview). The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
