We are looking for a motivated and experienced professional to fill the role of Product Trainer/Technical Writer on our Boulder Specialty Engineering team. This onsite position is based at our Boulder, Colorado facility and offers exciting opportunities for personal and professional growth in support of national security.

Essential Functions

The selected candidate will specialize in Education and Training, Technical Orders (TO), and Human Factors Engineering (HFE) for fixed and mobile platforms. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop training content using the Instructional Systems Development (ISD) framework (ADDIE) for analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning systems.
  • Apply a variety of instructional techniques, such as individual training, group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstration-performance, problem-based learning, student-centered learning, and guided discussions.
  • Contribute to fulfilling Air Force Training requirements across domains like Ground Control (GC), Mission Processing (MP), Mission Management (MM), and satellite Telemetry, Tracking, and Commanding (TT&C).
  • Write, rewrite, and edit complex technical documents, such as technical procedure manuals, user guides, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and other related technical publications.
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to military standards, including MIL-STD-38784, and complies with Army and Air Force-specific structures and requirements.
  • Acquire knowledge through interviews with subject matter experts, observing production methods, reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, and industry standards.
  • Oversee preparation of illustrative materials that include diagrams, charts, sketches, and other graphical aids to support technical content.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of all materials to ensure clarity, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Support the development and sustainment of a positive and collaborative culture across all teams and functions.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge in the field, keeping up-to-date with new techniques, standards, and tools relevant to education, training, and technical writing.
This requisition may be filled at a higher job grade based on the qualifications listed below.
This requisition may be filled as either a level 2 or a level 3.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience; 0 years of relevant experience with a Master's. An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have an Active DoD Secret clearance at time of application with background investigation completed within the past 5 years
  • U.S. Citizenship is required and candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance upon hire.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience; 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's; 0 years of relevant experience with a PhD. An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have an Active DoD Secret clearance at time of application with background investigation completed within the past 5 years
  • U.S. Citizenship is required and candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance upon hire.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

We’d love to see candidates who bring the following additional experience to the role:

  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) as well as tools like Adobe Captivate, Doc-To-Help, and/or Articulate Storyline.
  • Demonstrated experience working with MIL-STD-38784, including writing to rigorous military standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Space, Army, and Air Force unique structures, processes, and technical specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as organizational skills to meet deadlines in a high-paced environment.
  • Experience with ground-based Space Mission systems or aerospace/defense engineering programs.

Primary Level Salary Range: $85,600.00 - $128,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $106,800.00 - $160,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
