Intro
The DealerOps team at Cox Automotive is leading the modernization of the dealer management system experience — reimagining how dealerships run their financial operations on a cloud-native platform built for the way dealers work today. This is foundational platform work, and the accounting domain sits at the center of it.
As a Product Business Analyst for DMS Accounting, you will be the connective layer that keeps the product team moving. You'll assist in writing the stories, do the research, pull the data, documenting the workflows, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks between what dealers need, what product has decided, and what engineering is building. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role for someone who is organized, curious, and ready to get close to a complex domain.
What You'll Do
- Assist in writing and maintaining well-formed user stories, acceptance criteria, and feature documentation across the DMS Accounting backlog, keeping artifacts current and refinement-ready as priorities evolve.
- Document current-state and future-state dealership accounting workflows — including GL management, deal posting, cash receipts, AP processing, and period close — using process diagrams and structured written specifications.
- Pull and analyze product usage data, support ticket trends, and qualitative research inputs to surface patterns and feed prioritization decisions for the PM team.
- Participate in dealer interviews and observation sessions, capturing structured field notes and synthesizing findings into research artifacts and problem statements that inform discovery.
- Partner with the Competitive Intelligence team to consume and internalize DMS competitor research, translating findings into product-level implications and actionable inputs that inform prioritization and discovery decisions alongside the PM.
- Partner with engineering and QA to clarify requirements, verify that built features meet acceptance criteria, and support user acceptance testing before release.
- Maintain living documentation for DMS Accounting business rules, data definitions, workflow logic, and integration dependencies — keeping the team aligned as the platform evolves.
Preferred
Domain & Industry Experience
- Familiarity with dealership operations, automotive retail, or DMS software (CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, Tekion, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of accounting concepts such as general ledger structure, accounts payable and receivable, deal posting, or period close — through product work or prior experience in an accounting or finance operations role.
- Experience documenting business processes and data flows using tools such as Lucid, Visio, or equivalent.
Technical & Integration Fluency
- Experience querying data using SQL or working within a BI or analytics platform such as Tableau, Looker, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with delivery and requirements management tools such as Rally, Jira, Confluence, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting a product team through a platform migration or system modernization effort.
AI Capability
- Demonstrated familiarity with Context Engineering — the ability to structure prompts and inputs that produce reliable, useful AI outputs as part of day-to-day research, synthesis, and documentation work.
- Demonstrated familiarity with AI-Native Product Building — an understanding of where AI can meaningfully improve accounting workflows and the ability to contribute to requirements that incorporate AI capabilities responsibly and effectively.
