Role Overview
The Principal, Strategic Programs leads enterprise-critical programs advancing Supplier Experience and multi-year strategic priorities. Partners with leadership to translate strategy into execution, drive program discipline, and deliver measurable impact across Procurement and EO. Combines strategic planning, program leadership, and executive communication.
Team & Organizational Context
- The Procurement Strategy & Planning team is focused on translating visionary leadership into actionable procurement strategies that accelerate HP’s future readiness
- Focus areas include strategic planning, integration & culture, performance management, and workforce development
- The team’s mission is to progress the Procurement vision in alignment with HP and EO’s long-term goals
Key Accountabilities
Supplier Experience Strategy & Governance
- Define and scale a cohesive supplier experience agenda that creates a consistent, enterprise-wide engagement model across Procurement, category teams, quality, logistics, and business stakeholders.
- Establish supplier engagement playbooks, governance routines, and templates that enable category teams to manage strategic supplier relationships with consistency and clarity.
- Partner with category leaders to support joint business planning, executive supplier engagement, and cross-functional issue resolution without replacing category ownership.
Supplier Insights, Performance & Risk
- Design and manage Voice of the Supplier feedback loops, analyze insights, and translate findings into prioritized process and experience improvements.
- Define supplier health metrics across performance, responsiveness, relationship quality, risk, and ease of doing business.
- Monitor supplier experience trends, escalate emerging risks, and coordinate mitigation plans with category, quality, logistics, and business stakeholders.
Supplier Engagement & Recognition
- Support supplier recognition programs, executive engagement forums, and partnership initiatives that reinforce HP’s position as a preferred customer.
- Partner with category teams to identify opportunities for supplier incentives, innovation collaboration, and strategic relationship strengthening.
Executive Communication & Governance
- Build executive-ready narratives, updates, and decision materials
- Support strategy reviews and leadership forums with clear, data-driven insights
Program Management & Planning
Define KPIs and maintain dashboards to track program outcomes and supplier experience improvements
Align long-term strategy with operational plans and reporting
Establish governance, tools, and execution discipline across initiatives
Strategic Problem Solving
Analyze complex supplier and operational challenges
Develop actionable, data-driven recommendations to advance transformation
General Requirements
- Unique mastery and recognized authority on relevant subject matter knowledge, including technologies, theories, and techniques.
- Successfully operates in HP's most complex disciplines, providing highly innovative solutions.
- Leads large, cross-division functional teams or projects that affect the organization's long-term goals and objectives.
- Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and criteria for achieving objectives.
- Develops strategy and sets functional policy and direction.
- Acts as a functional manager within area of expertise but does not manage other employees as a primary job function.
- Typically has 10+ years in strategic programs, consulting, procurement or related fields with enterprise-scale impact.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Strategic planning and transformation leadership
- Program Management: Advanced program leadership (PMP preferred)
- Executive Communication: Clear, concise storytelling for senior leadership
- Strategic Problem Solving: Structured, analytical, outcome-oriented
- Supplier/Business Strategy: Experience with supplier ecosystems or external partner strategy
- Data & Insights: Metrics, dashboards, and performance management (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
Impact & Scope
- Influences L1/L2/L3 decisions through insights, structure, and execution visibility
- Impacts large functions and leads large, cross-division functional teams or projects.
- Provides highly innovative solutions to complex problems within established policy.
- Drives measurable impact on procurement’s strategic priorities, operational capabilities, and workforce development.
Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this role is $137,250.00 - 202,450.00 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
