Northrop Grumman, Armament Systems Business Unit (ASBU), has an opening for a Principal (Level 3) or Sr. Principal (Level 4) Traffic Administrator to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be reporting to our site Plymouth, Minnesota, but this is a teleworking opportunity.

Job Summary:
This position involves securing EX approvals, managing special permits, ensuring packaging compliance, navigating the DOT application process, and providing support during internal and external regulatory audits.

Key Responsibilities:

Hazardous Materials Compliance:

  • Provide guidance on 49 CFR (Hazardous Materials Regulations) to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding hazardous materials transportation.
  • Secure EX approvals, special permits, and other regulatory authorizations necessary for shipping hazardous materials.
  • Review contracts and agreements with transportation vendors to ensure compliance with DOT and DOD regulations.

Regulatory Expertise and Support:

  • Provide strategic guidance on proper packaging, marking, labeling, and documentation related to transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Assist corporate with federal and state DOT registration processes.
  • Monitor regulatory changes to DOT hazardous materials regulations, ensuring the company’s practices adapt to the latest requirements.

Audit Support and Process Improvement:

  • Conduct internal compliance audits to assess adherence to DOT hazardous materials regulations.
  • Provide support during regulatory audits or inspections, ensuring timely responses and proper documentation.
  • Identify potential risks or gaps in compliance, recommend corrections, and oversee implementation of process improvements

Training and Communication:

  • Develop and conduct training programs for teams on DOT hazardous materials regulations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all documents related to hazardous material transportation, including manifests, permits, audit findings, and shipping documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal -Bachelors degree & 5 years of related experience, OR a masters degree & 3 years of related experience. Sr. Principal - Bachelors degree & 8 years of related experience, OR a masters degree & 6 years of related experience
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. DOT hazardous materials regulations (49 CFR Parts 100–185) and transportation requirements.
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a DoD security clearance (US citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  •   Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Transportation, Regulatory Compliance, or a closely related field; or equivalent professional experience.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in hazardous materials
  • Knowledge and Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of U.S. DOT hazardous materials regulations (49 CFR Parts 100–185) and transportation requirements.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop clear regulatory guidance and training.
    • Ability to multitask effectively and manage compliance programs.

Primary Level Salary Range: $77,800.00 - $116,800.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $97,100.00 - $145,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
