Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman’s Western Region Space Sector is seeking a self-motivated, results-oriented individual to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA, as a Principal Facilities Engineer (Level 3).
This position is 100% onsite and does not accommodate telecommute or hybrid work.
This role is distinguished from a standard facilities engineering position by its emphasis on simultaneous project management and forecasting, extensive coordination with programs and stakeholders, risk mitigation, implementation of company and site standards, management of schedule milestones, and use of historical data to drive successful project execution.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Manage the full project lifecycle from requirements gathering through commissioning and closeout
- Gather and evaluate requirements, technical data, blueprints, and reports
- Develop statements of work (SOWs), budget forecasts, rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates, and schedule forecasts
- Review submittals, methods of procedure (MOPs), requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs), and other construction-related documentation
- Determine facility and equipment specifications in alignment with program and site needs
- Review and estimate all phases of facility design and construction
- Design and oversee implementation of facility expansions, layouts, building systems, and quality controls
- Prepare and manage the bid process for design and construction services
- Collaborate daily with vendors, maintenance teams, and cross-functional partners
- Coordinate and oversee contractors performing construction and installation activities
- Inspect, or direct the inspection of, construction progress to ensure conformance with drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, building codes, health and safety standards, and security requirements
- Prepare technical reports and compliance documentation
- Develop and deliver presentations to senior leadership on project status, risks, and recommendations

- Effectively manage 15 or more concurrent projects of varying complexity and cost
- Demonstrate strong teamwork skills and collaborate effectively with multiple groups across campus, including coordinating overlapping projects led by other Facilities Engineers
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science with 5 years of project management and/or construction experience; or a Master’s degree with 3 years of project management and/or construction experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Top Secret and SCI clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
- Facilities engineering experience in a complex, multi-building environment
- Certifications: CCM, PMP, OSHA 10-Hour, etc.
- Current active Top Secret or SCI (SSBI) clearance
