Overview
The Zhang Research Group seeks a part-time Research Assistant/Research Coordinator to support multiple NIH-funded and other externally funded research projects in epidemiology, nutrition, environmental health, metabolic health, liver disease, cancer prevention, and related chronic disease outcomes. This position will provide research coordination, data management, literature review, and project support across multiple collaborative research projects. This position is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing graduate training, public health research, clinical research, or related careers. The position offers opportunities to gain experience in epidemiologic research, data management, scientific writing, and interdisciplinary collaborative research within a leading academic research environment.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Support coordination of ongoing epidemiologic and population-based research studies.
2. Assist with data management, including data cleaning, quality control, documentation, and organization of analytic files.
3. Assist with IRB-related documentation, study tracking, and regulatory compliance activities as needed.
4. Conduct literature searches and summarize scientific evidence for manuscripts, proposals, reports, and presentations.
5. Assist with preparation of tables, figures, abstracts, manuscripts, grant materials, and project reports.
6. Track project timelines, deliverables, regulatory documents, and collaborator communications.
7. Coordinate research meetings, including preparing agendas, taking notes, and following up on action items.
8. Maintain organized project files and documentation in accordance with institutional and team standards.
9. Perform other research-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research team setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar tools.
3. Proven experience with data management or statistical software such as SAS, R, Stata, or Python.
4. Familiarity with literature review, citation management, manuscript preparation, or grant support.
5. Interest in nutrition, metabolic health, liver disease, cancer epidemiology, or chronic disease prevention.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, biology, nutrition, data science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Prior experience supporting epidemiologic, clinical, public health, or population-based research.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. Required Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Job Posting Date
